Scope mounts have been part of Fairhope, Alabama for over a century. The first mounts were built in 1882 by Hiram W. Fowler. From then until 1905, the city had its own arsenal and rifle range. In 1906, the Arsenal was moved to its current location on Court Street and mount companies were started there such as Western Mounts and American Arms Company. In 1916, Fairhope began using a system called “A” base mounting which allowed users to adjust the height of their rifles without having to remove them from their stocks. This system was replaced in 1949 with the use of “B” bases which provide more stable mounting and allowed users to increase or decrease the sighting radius up or down by 1/2 inch. The current scope mount system is based off of the A/B bases with some minor adjustments made for different firearms. The first time that scopes were used on handguns in Fairhope was in 1920 when Jens Dahlgren installed a Weaver style scope on his pistol entitled the Model 1903 Pistol Scope (Dahlgren Trophy). From then until 1935, pistols were equipped with muzzle brakes which prevented them from firing unless they were fired from an unloaded position making it difficult for people to shoot at targets without getting wet. In 1936, Gadsden Rifle Manufacturing Company began producing firearms including handguns using screw-on Davidson type scopes which became known as Gadsden Rifle Scopes (GRS). After World War II ended in 1945, many manufacturers stopped producing firearms soFairhope's armory became inactive and is now used as a Storage Facility

In 1865 FairhOPE passed into Confederate hands during the Civil War because it was part of Union General James "Pete" Johnson's District XI which included much of Mobile County. The town surrendered on April 12th under terms that allowed all male citizens over 21 years of age to be drafted into Confederate military service or face imprisonment and/or fines up to $1,000 per year. Some women also took up arms against the Union but were quickly compensated by the Confederate government for their loss of property and freedom (see below). After the war ended FairHOPE reopened its shops and businesses including two stores operated by Mrs. Hosea Hawkins (daughter-in-law of former Senator John Crain) who had closed her store in Bibbville after being forced out of that community by Confederates during Reconstruction days. Postwar reconstruction saw an increase in business as residents returned home from fighting throughout Southeast Asia and Latin America; however many businesses went out Of Business due to high costs associated with reconstruction efforts such as labor force shortages caused by new technologies imported from Europe during this time period such as automobiles which had just started arriving in America at this point In order for FairHOPE to resume normalcy following World War II many local companies merged or were bought out forming what are today some very large companies such as Denny's Restaurants Inc., Piggly Wiggly Markets Inc., BJ's Restaurant & Brewery Inc., Regions Bankshares Corporation et al.. One major factor leading to increased business activity was increased access to improved transportation through Interstate Highway 10 which connected Mobile with Birmingham make it possible for more people living near downtowns acrossAlabamato get their goods & services without having to leave their homes

Fairhope, Alabama is a small town in southcentral Alabama that is the seat of Marshall County. The population was 7,389 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Vestavia Hills metropolitan area. It was founded in 1876 as a post office and became an incorporated municipality in 1907. The name "Fairhope" comes from the Choctaw word "fairoob", meaning "a place where one can trade." Fairhope's first settler, James White, arrived in 1876 and named his land Fairhope Township after his home state of Georgia. fairgrounds were first built throughout central Alabama but only Fairhope had its own magistrate court system and courthouse. When white people began to move into the area they started trading goods with Native Americans who lived there before European arrival. Trade would continue until around 1840 when most of what is now southernAlabama was discovered by Europeans during the Mexican–American War (1846-48). Spanish traders brought over African slaves to work on their plantations and by 1824 there were more than 1,000 Africans working in Alabama fields as wagons filled with cotton rolled through Lamar County on their way to Mobile Bayou for shipment to Havana or Mexico City

In 1819, the Alabama Territory was formed from part of the Louisiana Purchase. The territory consisted of present-day Alabama and Tennessee. The first permanent white settlers in Fairhope were James Hinson and his family in 1822. In 1830, Isaac Shelby settled in what is now Fairhope. A post office called "Fairhope" was established in 1836, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1840, a group of Methodist missionaries founded a church at Fairhope. The first pastor of the church was Rev. John Sibley. The First Baptist Church also functioned at Fairhope for many years before being moved to Decatur, Alabama in 1913.
