In 1906, a group of entrepreneurs purchased 2,000 acres (800 ha) near Fairhope from J C Pritchett and began to develop it into what would become Fairhaven Farms Limited: a cotton plantation with about 1 million acres (500 km2) production capacity covering most of southern Alabama by 1910. In 1916 there were so many cotton fields being operated on this scale in Alabama that President Wilson sent his special envoy to survey this phenomena and recommend ways to reduce output while maintaining prices at levels which would support industry throughout America; he recommended setting up state-owned cooperatives among farmers groups instead. One hundred years after its founding, Fairhope still stands as an agricultural community with a small commercial and service sector - its economy derives largely from agriculture but also includes timber production, manufacturing goods exported to other countries such as Mexico City through local businesses located thereabouts (especially since international trade has greatly increased since World War II), tourism providing important income for residents while raising awareness about local attractions (including numerous historical sites), several thousand volunteer firefighters/ambulance operators

The store grew rapidly and within a few years it had two branches - one at Main Street and one at Second Street. It is likely that this store was built directly next to the present day Elementary School building which was later added to the town square in 1922%. While many businesses flourished during these early years, trade slowly declined during World War I due to wartime restrictions on goods transport across rivers like the Mississippi River! However, since Fairhope lay on both sides of Mobile Bay with access to both waterways there were no huge problems faced by either side during this time period! After World War I ended however things changed dramatically forFairhopers when Congress passed The National Defense Act of 1916 which placed new tariffs on various items imported into America from abroad including cotton! This resulted in an economic depression that hit Fairhopers hard as sales dropped precipitously throughout 1917-1918!! Many residents decided to flee their homes or move away altogether due to these difficult times; however some chose to stay because they believed that their community could still thrive despite adversity! Eventually through hard work and determination from all involved parties (including fellow townsfolk) Fairhopers emerged from this tough time stronger than ever before!!! In 1919 President Woodrow Wilson awarded Fairhospitaler General Motors Company's plant in downtown Mobile with an $8 million investment making it one of America's largest industrial projects up until then!!! This event marks another milestone for our village as well as our history as an integral part of American culture!! Today we continue celebration of our rich past through events like Fourth Of July fireworks displays AND Folk Days where we learn about traditional values & customs associated with our community – all while enjoying delicious home cooked meals served right here at our schoolhouse kitchen!!!
The community of Fairhope was founded in 1836 by the Reverend Alexander Gardner, a Presbyterian minister. The town grew rapidly and by 1840 had over 300 residents. In 1851, the state of Alabama acquired Fairhope from the United States Government for $10,000. In 1865, the Cashiers National Bank was built inFairhope and has been in operation ever since. In 1870, Fairhope became a city and it has continued to grow ever since. In 1907, the first high school in Fairhope was opened and it has remained open ever since.
