Fairhope is a small town located in the eastern region of Alabama, about 25 miles east of Birmingham. It has a population of approximately 10,000 residents. The town was founded in 1892 by two men, John W. Fair and Hiram J. Steelman. Airguns were first introduced to Fairhope in the early 1920s when Mr. Steelman developed an airgun that he made himself from a shotgun stock and an old rifle barrel. The airgun was very successful and soon became popular among local hunters and farmers alike for its accuracies and power. During Reconstruction in Alabama, many men from Fairhope fought for Confederate forces during the war. Afterward, many citizens returned to their homes and businesses in what is now Fairhope. In 1865, Union general Nathan Bedford Forrest destroyed much of Mobile after its victory over General Robert Ewell's Confederate army at Gettysburg. In 1896, Mayor John Boren appointed Joplin Gist as first white mayor of Fairhope after he was elected to that office from an African American district in Gulfport City not far away. Gist served two terms before he resigned due to health concerns; he would later be honored with a statue in his honor near city limits. On November 4, 1936, Negro residents of Mobile were allowed into voting areas following passage by Congress of the Nationality Act 1935 bill making racial discrimination against blacks illegal throughout all U S government institutions and organizations except military service under state auspices (the only such exemption being education). This event marked one step towards equal representation for African Americans through government until well into the 21st century when they still experience levels of discrimination both within individual institutions and through institutional policies and practices across all levels governmental jurisdictions within our country

In the early 1800s,guns were first used in hunting. In 1847, John Fechter patented an airgun that fired a small explosive charge under pressure from a tube inserted into the barrel. This weapon was called the “Fechter Gun.”
The town of Fairhope, Alabama, was founded in 1851 by a group of Scots-Irish settlers. The town of Fairhope was founded in 1817 by Methodist missionaries. The town grew rapidly due to the production of cotton and other crops. The first courthouse was built in 1836 and the first post office opened in 1850. The town was named for General James Fair, an American general who helped win the Battle of Bull Run.
