Gun triggers are a type of trigger that is found on firearms. These triggers are used to fire rounds from the barrel. Trigger mechanisms vary in design, but all gun triggers share one common feature: they must be pulled back and then released to fire the round. Trigger mechanisms can also be set to fire a fixed number of rounds per pullback or via an adjustable trigger system. One of the earliestTrigger mechanisms was the hammer-fired musket, which used a simple lever-operated trigger. Another early trigger mechanism was the flintlock revolver, which used two small weights on either side of a long handle to cock the hammer and release the ball into firing position. The first percussion rifles were made with three-lobed hammers that fired shot by means of a strikers arm attached to the muzzle (see howitzers). The use of percussion caps in firearms began with artillery in 16th century Europe. In 1795, George Washington experimented with using cap guns in battle against British forces at Yorktown, Virginia. With this new technology, projectiles could now be loaded into cannons more easily and quickly than with powder alone

The name "Fairfield" comes from the Algonquian term "waring-place." In colonial times, it was part of the territory claimed by the British crown for North America. George Washington and his army passed through this area on their way to battle against Great Britain at Yorktown in 1781. After victory at Yorktown, General Washington ordered General John Moore's brigade to march into what is now Fairfield Township. Upon reaching there, they found that they were within Indian Territory and had no right to encamp there without orders from Congress. So General Moore ordered his men back away from the town square where they had been camped while he made arrangements withCongressman James Wilkinson for an crossing of the Little Red River near present day Scottsboro Plaza (now known as Park Avenue). On September 14th, 1781, President Washington issued an order authorizing Major General Nicholas Saratoga's brigade to cross over into Indian Territory and attack Fort Moultrie on Monmouth Island northeast of Savannah (then part of Georgia). About 12 noon on September 15th, Captain John Butler led a detachment of six volunteers under command of Colonel William Cobbett across Roanoke Bridge into Cherokee Nation territory near modern Pryor (now part of Opelousas Parish) on the Tennessee River about 20 miles north east of Chattanooga. This event marks one end of open warfare between British forces and Native Americans before American raids began systematically destroying European settlements throughout Southeast Asia beginning with Pontiac's Rebellion in 1795

The history of Fairfield, Alabama begins with its founding in 1821. The town was named for Colonel James A. Fairfield, who donated the land to the townspeople. The first permanent settler in Fairfield was John Hays. In 1829, a post office was established in Fairfield and the name changed to Fairfield Junction in honor of General James Wilkinson, who served as Governor of Alabama from 1828-1830. In 1846, a railroad came throughFairfield and it became an important center for trade during the antebellum period. With this growth, business owners began to build homes and businesses within the town limits. In 1865, one of these business owners, Colleton Pemberton Sr., founded Mobile County Courthouse which still stands today. During Reconstruction Era (1870-1914), Fairfield experienced significant economic progress due to its location on the railroad network and its role as a manufacturing center for cotton ginners and other industries. However, by 1915 there were only six businesses left in Fairfield while more than doubling population had formed around neighboring communities such as Lorman and Milton since railroads bypassed those areas during that time period. In 1945, after World War II ended,FairFIELD lost much of its significance due to industrial consolidation within Mobile County although some new development has taken place over the years including a new shopping mall located near downtown which opened in 2006.
