Fairfield is a small town located in the Alabama Hills region of central Alabama. The population was 2,614 at the 2010 census. Fairfield is included within the Birmingham-Tuscaloosa-Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to arrive in what is now Fairfield were the Creek Indians. They were followed by other Native Americans, including the Cherokees and Choctaws. The area that would become Fairfield was settled by men who had come from Kentucky and Tennessee in the early 1800s. These pioneers were looking for a place to build their homes and farms while they awaited word of gold discovered in those states. The first post office was established in 1817, though it only served residents of nearby Mountain Brook Township. In 1827, land around Fairfield was donated to establish a town square and ensure that all citizens could be involved in its founding and development. The square eventually became known as "The Square." One of the earliest businesses in Fairfield was an opera house built on land donated by John Denton Sr., one of the original settlers. Denton died before his donation could be used for this purpose, but his wife did manage to procure funding for its construction nonetheless. The opera house lasted until 1904 when it burned down due to an accidental fire。 It reopened as a theater later that year but closed again due to financial problems following World War II. After years of decline, it reopened as a grocery store in 2003 before being closed again several years later when owners decided not to renew lease terms after manyandals occurred at storefront property unrelated to business operations.} In November 2006, Downtown Fairfield held its first Festival of Lights as part of Mardi Gras celebrations! This event featured art exhibits, music performances and more!} In January 2007, fairgrounds began hosting car shows during prime agricultural season.} In July 2007, First Baptist Church re-opened after having been closed for many years due to major damage caused by Hurricane Katrina.} By September 2007, several businesses had reopened following extensive renovations which included new kitchens/bathrooms/entertainment areas; all without any government assistance.} In October 2009 First Baptist Church once again reopened after undergoing extensive renovation!} This time with brand new stained glass windows which feature scenes from Bible stories along with contemporary images.} On Valentine's Day 2009 (the same day as Good Friday), downtown Fairfield hosted its second Festival of Lights which featured local artisan crafts from vendors throughout town {including quilts made out of colorful fabric created using recycled materials}. Numerous local businesses also participated including Brewtopia BBQ & Burger Bar{which offered free unlimited refills on beer}, Jukebox Live{a live music venue}, Cheese 'n' Onion's{a restaurant serving up delicious Italian cuisine}, Old Fashioned Bakery{an historic bakery that has been open since 1789}, Tiffany's Bake Shop{a bake shop specializing in unique desserts], plus numerous other smaller merchants} As part of National Midtown Cleanup Month beginning February 5th through February 11th2009 {} several large stores - Macy's Department Store,[Macy's Gift shops]- donate over 100 pounds weightless donations each}{All proceeds benefit Birmingham Scholarship Fund} On Saturday February 9th2010 {} approximately 500 people converged on downtownfair field for annual city park clean up day}}}In May 2012 two churches - First United Methodist Church[First Presbyterian]and Second Baptist Church[Calvary Chapel] both converted into homeless shelters resulting fricture between church groups}} Today there are over 20 restaurants scattered throughout downtown fair field catering mostly towards locals or visitors looking for locally sourced food} One such establishment is called "Cafeteria" run by husband & wife team Tony & Tina Nguyen who have opened up three locations across metro Atlanta){based out of affiliation with original Take Out Thai Kitchen cafe which operated from 1981-1996}; their menus offer chicken satay (with peanut sauce), duck Confit sandwich($10), pad thai green curry soup($11) with shrimp or chicken balls ($14)}} A recent addition is Cantina MexicanaOpened up last year inside former Pompano Casino redevelopment project)} There are currently seven churches active withinFairfieldsouthside limits:{First United MethodistChurch,[First Presbyterian]Second BaptistChurch,[Calvary Chapel], Trinity United MethodistChurches[Methodist], Redeemer LutheranChurch,[Congregationalist], Prairie View AME Zion EpiscopalChurch [Anglican], Holy Cross Catholic Parish [Catholic]}As well as numerous non-related religious organizations like Jehovahs Witnesses (formerly headquartered here) ({ worshiping at various centers dispersed throughout Montgomery County})}} According: 2010 Census 1% African American; 0% Hispanic or Latino; 97% White

Fairfield is a town in Pickens County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile–Auburn Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first mention of Fairfield comes from an article in the "Mobile Register" on July 3, 1817. At that time, it was called "Fayetteville". In 1818, this name was changed to "Fairfield", after Colonel Isaac Fairchild and his family settled there. In 1824, Fairfield became a city under the name of Mobile. The post office at Fairfield was established on December 6th, 1840. In 1851-52, during the American Civil War (1861-1865), Fairfield became known as Battle Creek due to its strategic location within Union lines and its role as a supply depot for Confederate forces marching through Alabama. By 1865, however, it had become a largely rural community with few industry or retail businesses remaining.. In 1902-03 when Mobile began to grow rapidly and annexed neighbouring Pickens County (to form Mobile County), portions of what were then Fairfield east of US 69 were annexed into Mobile too - making up what is now Baldwin Hills neighborhood of downtown Mobile! However most residents continued to call themselvesFairfields until 1955 when they were reclassified as boroughs in Mayor Ford's plan for annexation which included much more dense development outside of downtown than had been present before
