Eufaula is a small town in Montgomery County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,591 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham–Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1865, General John C Forney Confederate forces occupied Eufaula while they were moving supplies to Selma to fight against Union forces under General Robert E Lee. Afterward, most of the town's businesses ceased operations because of lack of transportation or local supply disruptions caused by the war effort. A Baptist church opened in Eufaula in 1904 and remains one of its most active congregations today; it also operates a convenience store/cafeteria complex that has been called one of the best examples of tornado-resistant architecture in Alabama. In 1949, this structure was destroyed by an EF5 tornado that struck nearby Hoover Dam; all 8 floors were completely demolishedsave for two basement levels which collapsed into what is now an emergency room at Memorial Hospital downtown). In 2000-2001, construction began on a new high school campus which will provide more than 2200 students with single-sex education opportunities through various middle schools and high schools within walking distance of each other on three blocks east of downtown Eufaula village center - making this one area where educational choices can be tailored specifically to meet individual student needs! This comprehensive project is slated for completion early 2021! By 1931, Eufaula had become one of the most substantial cotton towns in Alabama.
