From 1929 to her death in 1959, Mrs. Randolph ran the property as a pass through estate before it passed to her son-in-law Coleman Beattie Randolph Jr., who had it turned into an amusement park called Parkland Gardens which opened its doors on May 1, 1969. In 1898 Mabel Hooker married William Prentice Hite who also owned land adjacent to Parkland Gardens which he used for farming purposes until his death in 1955; however, some portions of that land were leased back to Mrs. Randolph from time to time for other uses such as an elementary school and golf course that are still open today with about 2,500 students using them each day during term times only! They named their new town after an eunuch they had found living among them on an uninhabited island near Mobile Bay. The original post office was called Euphemia and opened in 1823. The community grew rapidly due to its location on the Gulf Coast and its access to shipping lanes made it an important commercial center during the early 19th century. In 1853, steamboats brought passengers and cargo from New Orleans to Eufaula for transportation along Mobile Bayou. In 1875, George Rogers Clark visited Eufaula while campaigning for president of the United States and decided to make it his headquarters during his tour of Alabama. He purchased land adjacent to present-day downtown for $1,000 and built a large mansion known as "Clark's Hermitage." Clark died there in 1904 before leaving any legacy behind other than a plaque that still stands on the property commemorating his visit. During World War II, many soldiers stationed at Camp Humphreys (later Fort Smith) used Eufaula as their base camp because it was closer than Selma or Fayetteville which were both main army supply centers west of Mobile Bayou eligible for military duty under President Franklin D Roosevelt's program called "New Deal". Many people who lived near Camp Humphreys also lost their homes when this area became designated a military zone following Pearl Harbor but they were able to rebuild quickly thanks to donations from local businesses and citizens alike
Eufaula was founded by the Eufaula Purchase in 1819. The town grew up around a trading post and log cabin that was first built on the site of present-day downtown Eufaula. In 1827, the town became a port for goods transported by riverboats. A railroad arrived in 1845, and the town quickly became an important commercial center. The population of Eufaula peaked at over 100 in 1860, but it decreased to about 60 by 1870. The last resident died in 1880.
