By 1825, allusions to hammers appeared in patent applications from other inventors such as Nicholas-Jacques Conte and Isaac DeWitt Cooke. Gun hammers began appearing on rifles in the 1830s. Rifle hammers became standard equipment on shotguns beginning in the 1840s. Shotgun hammers became common on rifle barrels in the 1850s. Eufaula is a small town located in the Huntsville-Decatur metropolitan area in Alabama. The population was 2,421 at the 2010 census. Eufaula is known for its peach orchards and blue cheese. The first Europeans to explore what is now Alabama were Spanish traders who landed at Mobile Bay on September 12, 1519, and named the place "Eufaula". In 1802, General Andrew Jackson's army passed through this area during his campaign against Mexico. As part of that campaign, Jackson's men discovered a rich oil deposit near Eufaula and began drilling for gasdrills there. Oil production began in earnest in 1903. In 1907, John Denny founded the Denny Elevator Company in Eufaula with his brother Charles Fenton Denny Sr.. This company built elevators throughout centralAlabama until it was bought by Southern Pacific Railroad in 1951. By 1954, all of the local cotton plantations had been abandoned and replaced by subdivisions; however, some farmers kept corn farming until 1990s when a new large grocery store was built on Main Street called "The Gist". The store closed in 2003 but parts of it remain standing as an example of early 20th century architecture and are currently used as apartments/condominiums; also left behind are many reminders of that era such as wooden stairs leading up to upper stories (now gone) and white picket fences around most homes along Main Street which were common at that time In 1901 incorporation occurred for what would become Eufaula Township with a population of only 33 residents organized into three precincts: “East” (later renamed Shamokin), “West” (later renamed Decatur) & “Southwest” (later renamed Covington). On October 1st 1901 Masons Lodge #1 met to establish colors black & gold together with red (& later green) lodge members from other areas within our township….On November 21st 1901 election results showed 26 votes cast…..A meeting was called on December 6th 2001 to make changes to township organization due to increasing population size without proper representation so a vote took place on January 10th 2002 resulting 3 members being elected trustees…..After numerous meetings over several years it was decided that we should change our name back to Eufaula Township Incorporation took place on February 5th 2002 Eugene A. Sheppard served as mayor from 1967-1972 & 1975-1981 Walter Hines served as Mayor from 1971-1973 Leonard Peebles served as Mayor from 1981-1983

Eufaula was founded in 1819 by General John C. Morgan, who named it for his native Alabama estate, Eufaula Plantation. The town grew rapidly and soon had a population of over 3,000 people. By 1830, the town had become an important center for cotton production and trade. In 1834, the Alabama Legislature designated Eufaula as the seat of government for the newly formed Territory of Indian Territory. The town continued to grow and contribute greatly to the development of Indian Territory. In 1839, Eufaula became part of the new state of Alabama when it was created from parts of Indian Territory. After becoming an official part of Alabama, the town experienced a period of rapid growth and development which continues to this day. Today, Eufaula is a vibrant community with a rich history that has contributed significantly to its current status as one ofAlabama's most important towns. Thetown is home to many cultural attractions such as its renowned Cotton Bowl football game stadium and its world-renowned art museum which features some Of America's most renowned artists including Jasper Johns and Georgia O'Keefe. Additionally, Eufaula is also home to several large businesses such as Sears Roebuck & Co., Alcoho Manufacturing Company (now known as Koch Industries),and Birmingham-Southern Railroad Company (now known as CSX Corp.). These businesses have made significant contributions to the growth and vibrancyofEufaula over the years; they are responsible for creating jobs and contributingtothe economic vitalityofthe community today.

The city grew rapidly during the 19th century, thanks to its status as a shipping center and its location on the Alabama River. In 1831, Eufaula became the capital of Alabama. The city experienced significant growth during Reconstruction Period, thanks to its role as a transportation hub and its access to resources such as cotton and timber. After the end of Reconstruction, Eufaula experienced significant declines in population and commerce, due to changing economic conditions and the spread of diseases such as cholera. Today, Eufaula is a small town with a population of around 100 people
