Enterprise, Alabama is a city located in the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2010 census, the population was 382, up from 307 at the 2000 census. The city is named after George Washington Enterprise and was first settled in 1817 by Scots-Irish immigrants who had emigrated to Mobile County, Alabama. The first target holders were built by Captain James Cook in 1795 on land that now includes downtown Enterprise. Cook's target holders were made of logs with a hole cut in one end and then stuck into the ground so that it could be fired from a cannonball launcher. Eventually these launchers were replaced with more sophisticated devices such as artillery pieces and mortars, buttarget holders are still present today at various venues throughout Enterprise and across Mobile County. One of my favorite targets is the 15-foot (4 m) diameter Confederate soldier statue located at Spring Branch Park near downtown Enterprise. The statue has been moved multiple times over the years, but always finds new home next to an old golf cart!

The Enterprise Rifle Club was chartered on December 7, 1892. The club purchased land at the corner of Ninth and Market Streets in Enterprise to establish their shooting range. The first target shoot took place on February 14, 1893.

By 1865, Enterprise had become an agricultural center with more than 100 businesses and 3,000 residents. In 1902, Enterprise became an incorporated municipality with a population of 20,000. In 1970, Enterprise merged with nearby Vestavia Hills to form one large city with a population of over 80,000 people today. The history of Enterprise began with its location on the banks of the Hoke River. When pioneers arrived in what is now Jefferson County in 1847 they were looking for land to purchase because no one wanted to settle near Mobile Bay because it was prone to attack by Native Americans. The first inhabitants of what is now Enterprise were farmers who grew corn and other vegetables on their property until 1855 when they developed into a town named after their patron saint - St Nicholas - which grew quickly due to its good water supply and easy access to transportation available through riverboats that took cotton upriver for processing into textiles for export. By 1865 Enterprise had become an agricultural center with more than 100 businesses including stores, churches and mills that produced food such as flour, whisky and eggs along with lumber, cloths and shoes for local consumers. In 1902 Vestavia Hills was annexed by enterprise as part of a merger proposal put forward by Mayor John Ladd which included both towns’ populations totaling 20K people combined! This merger made Vestavia Hills one of Alabama’s largest cities at this time having over 80K residents! The growth that occurred during the 1930s brought much needed jobs into downtown Enterprise which attracted many families moving from rural areas throughout central Alabama including many African American families who worked at variousprises within downtown before integration happened in Birmingham several years later! The post-World War II boom also brought new opportunities for job creation outside downtown where companies like Boeing & Lockheed Martin built plants resulting in increased retail development around Bryant Street filling what had been once largely residential areas surrounding downtown business districts! Today there are still some old buildings left standing such as Old Exchange Bank built in 1903 still used as a bank branch today adjacent to First Baptist Church which occupies most of the building fronting BroadwayStreet; while other commercial properties have been replaced or demolished such as Target Plaza across I-10 from downtown (now known as Mall Of America) while others have been redeveloped such as Kraft Foods plant northeast cornerof Main Street between Pratt Avenue & US Highway 231 just south of Mill Creek Park; BlueSky Restaurant located off I-5 exit 107 just north/eastof Airport Boulevard serving area outlying counties while JCPenney closed their store located inside Loews Hotel east sideof Broadwalk street just southwestof Air Force Base Blvd.; Sears closed their store opposite Phillips 66 gas station on Greenville Pike about 2 miles west northwest OF Aberdeen Proving Grounds international airfield; Centennial Plantation Golf Course original course opened May 15th 1888 remaining open today making it only golf course open within City limits not exceeding 1/4 mile wide or longer! There are also numerous smaller parks scattered throughout Downtown including Mill Creek Park across I-10 from downtown (now known Asbury Park), Library Square park just southwest of Airport Boulevard served by fire department services & Parkside Recreation Center located east/northeast off I-5 Exit 106 next doorto mall containing library + athletic fields + playgroundserving all entities within City limits plus borders onto Montgomery County !!! Finally we should mention Allendale Municipal Airport less than ½ mile southwestoff Interstate 5 exit 149 serviceable FOR CASCADES ONLY!!!! Today's economy has grown thanks primarily to government spending programs like Medicare & Medicaid expansion announced earlier this year followed by President Donald Trump's decision last week USDA created 7500 new positions specifically focusing on behalf agriculture industry creating significant economic opportunity throughout Jefferson County!!! With so many jobs present company sizes continue to grow WITHIN CITY LIMITS!!!!! most recently PNC Financial Services announcing plans TO OPEN A NEW PLANT IN ENTERPRISE CURRENTLY UNDER CONSIDERATION AS A MULTI-LAYER FINANCE COMPANY WITH EXPANSION INTO TRANSPORTATION SERVICES GAS STATIONS LOCATED NEARBY!!!!!!!!!!
There is no one answer to this question as the history of target holders has varied greatly from country to country. In the early 1800s, Europeans started using metal targets instead of wooden ones. This led to advancements in firearm technology and eventually allowed for more accurate shots at long distances. What began as a simple way to keep track of shooting targets has evolved into an industry-wide tradition. Shooting target holders were first invented by farmers in the 1840s to hold their targets during Hopkinton Shoot, which was a local annual event. The early holders were made from oakum or other strong materials and held onto trees with wire or leather straps. In the 1860s, riflemen started using target holders for practice and soon enough, these devices gained popularity among shooters across the country. By 1870, there were more than 1,000 manufacturers of shooting target holders in the United States alone.
In 1865, Enterprise was established as the county seat of Montgomery County. In 1868, it became the capital of Alabama and was home to the state's first government. By 1901, Enterprise had become a major cotton-growing center with over 150 plantations. The area now known as Enterprise was laid out in 1847 by Colonel James Hogg and named for him. The town quickly grew up around its market square and courthouse Square. By 1860, Enterprise boasted a population of 2,500 residents and served as an important stop on the Santa Fe Railroad. After Union forces captured Montgomery in April 1865, General Robert E. Lee ordered his army to march on Enterprise to take it by force if necessary. However, due to heavy artillery fire from nearby Fort Pickens, Confederate forces were forced to withdraw without taking any casualties or stores from Enterprise. The town continued to grow rapidly during Reconstruction following the war and by 1870 had reached 5,000 residents. During this time period there were several large construction projects such as the erection of a new courthouse complex and addition of many public buildings such as schools and libraries. However, these successes came at a cost: while businesses flourished during Reconstruction, they never regained their previous level of success; poverty also increased in the town during this time period.. Due to these problems (and others), business revenues dropped significantly in post-war years until they began slowly recovering in the early 1920s when enterprise annexed other adjoining townships including Vestavia Hills (in 1926) and Lake Butler (in 1928). This growth allowed for significant renovation efforts at many existing public buildings including churches and hospitals which helped revive downtown areas throughout Alabama after World War II caused considerable damage done by bombings raids conducted by American Forces during that conflict resulted in extensive destruction across much of downtown Birmingham alone During most recent decades since post-World War II redevelopment has resumed; enterprise has seen significant investment totaling over $100 million brought about through new development initiatives like mixed-use streetscapes with accompanying revitalization plans inside/outside various commercial corridors; cultural events have taken place within downtown core nightlife is expanding rapidly into neighborhoods adjacent thereto becoming more active along with more traditional forms of retail outlet presence We are proud our community continues’to thrive despite economic challenges faced throughout history
