Their goal was to promote shooting sports around town and improve safety for shooters. From 1865-1868, the association sponsored annual rifle competitions which attracted top shooters from acrossAlabama. In 1869, an addition to the Post Office building became available for use as a Shooting Target Holder’s Association hallowed ground where members could shoot their targets Indoors or Outdoors during hunting season! The association continued to meet here until 1903 when they moved into their current building on Elm Street which still stands today! Today, there are numerous member organizations throughout Alabama who enjoy using shootingtargetholders as part of their recreational activities or professional shoots! The history of shooting target holders in Dothan, Alabama begins with the establishment of a small business by W.P. Stephenson in 1907. This business was known as the "Tommy Gun Store". The first targets were made from wood and used for target practice at home. In 1912, Stephenson opened a larger store called the "Guns and Ammo" which became one of the largest gun stores in town. The store also sold ammunition and firearms accessories. In 1936, Stephenson sold his interest in the business to J.D. Nichols who continued to operate it until his death in 1990. At Nichols' death, the business passed through several hands before being purchased by John Mize who operated it until 1997 when it closed down again. From 1997-2001, Ira Kipperman operated the store while its current operator is Melody Hinson Jr.. Since 2007, Target Shooting has been located inside Gadsden Mall on 146th Street near Woodward Avenue just north of I-10 East exit #5B).

Dothan is a city in and the county seat of Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 20,361 at the 2010 census. Dothan is the second largest city in Marshall County after Mobile. It is the principal business and cultural center for the rural area around it. The downtown district has several dozen restaurants and attractions, as well as a library and art museum. The first permanent settler in what would become Dothan was James Fenton in 1819. Settlement began on a small farm near present-day Interstate 65 and U.S. 90 by 1825, when Fenton purchased 240 acres (12 km²) of land from Nicholas Bryant & Company for $1 per acre ($0.24 per km²). In 1830, Henry Crain bought 1,000 acres (500 ha) of land east of present-day downtown Dothan from Captain John Wofford to form part of his rancho de la Boca grant which he named Rancho de la Boca Nueva MexicoLand District #2 Mexican Land Grant (later called Tejas Valley Community District). In 1836, Andrew Hargrave organized what became known as the Natchez Trace Road Company to open an overland route between Mobile Bayou and Natchez through Dothan for trade with Native Americans. By 1840, about 400 people lived in Dothan; it had grown rapidly since its founding as a small town off US 90 about two years earlier! In 1846–47 General John Custer fought at Chickamauga Battlefield during America's early war with England; large numbers of Indians were killed or captured there including many women and children who were taken into captivity in nearby Yorktown Heights until they were released in 1865 by President Abraham Lincoln following the American victory at Yorktown Heights! One of General Custer's officers was Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Grigsby who later served as Mayor of Montgomery before becoming Governor of Alabama from 1971 to 1975! Nearby on Signal Hill overlooking downtown was Fort Pillow which guarded Mobile Bayou against Confederate attack during that important battle! Dothan saw its first post office established on December 15, 1853 (the date remains unknown): JF Cooke Post Office #2 under license from Indian Territory Postmaster General Elisha Moulton Hodgkinson – later renamed Jackson Post Office after US Senator Jackson – within one week!. mail reached only parts of Alabama due to lack of transportation available other than stagescoopstiny wagons carried goods upriver several timesdaily across muddy riverbeds then down again on horseback or carts back down just long enough for passengers to disembarkand walk their horses back home! A stagecoach service arrived via Decatur Road approximately every 2 hours beginning late November 1860 with stops at both Beale Street Station whereMQ Morgan located his cotton gin(present day MLK Jr.)&our old Pulteney Hotel(now Reston Place hotel), thence continuing across road bridge over current MLK Jr River & stopping opposite fortifications now occupied by Park Drive Inn next door(Marriott’s original property), thence continuing direct[sic] across [future I-565] which forms border between today’s town limits & today’s Marshall County Line [sic], arriving here early morningof December 15th[1853] accommodations being excellent: four public buildings viz.: courthouse/ courtroom building built by local contractor Wiley Ladd; jail built by State Board OF Public Safety Commissioners James Troup & others ; schools built by Miss Ladd (& other private individuals) & operated Irregularly throughout life; lovely Marengo Grove Cemetery opened soon after….
