The couple had four children: John Prentice Hogg (1871-1948), Willie Porter Hogg (1873-1962), Mamie Allred Hogg (1877-1965) and Anna Belle Hogg Cook (1879-1970). James Ladd Dodge served as mayor from 1912 to 1916 and 1917 to 1919; he was also justice of the peace for much of this time period. After World War I ended, many farmers left cotton production for other types of agriculture because they could not compete with heavier machinery developed in countries like Germany or Japan; however, several successful textile mills were soon established around town including J C Wholesale Cotton Company (now part of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.), First National Bank and Coca Cola Bottling plant #2 which still operates today as a restaurant/store called "CocaCola" on Meeting Street between Second Street Sq., east end [northwest corner] and Third Street Sq., south side [east end], just northeast of Interstate 85 between exits 422 & 424A [exit 426]. One such company that did well during prohibition era was relocated to Dothan after Prohibition ended - Big Daddy's grocery store which remains open today as "Big Daddy's Grocery". Dothan experienced significant growth following World War II due to its proximity to Birmingham[1] and its role as both an industrial center for munitions production[2] as well as petroleum refining facilities[3][4][5][6][7][8][9] for both Gulf Coast tankers loading cargoes at Naval Station Mobile Bayou oilfield off Mobile Bayou Boulevard 10 miles south west of town,[10] as well as numerous military installations throughout north central Alabama including Fort Knox Army Ammunition Plant,[11][12] Fort Morgan Army Ammunition Plant,[13] West Point Military Academy[14], Paladin Chemical Depot...etc.. During this time period there were also numerous new shopping malls opened up around town such as Chickamauga Mall,[15],[16],[17],[18]'s Knights Landing Shopping Center'', 'Mall at Antioch'', 'Villa Park'. In recent years there has been significant redevelopment taking place around downtown Dothan including construction on two large mixed use projects - One being anchored by Sears Towerballet nightclub/theater complex - anchor tenant will be Live Nation Entertainment Group LLC announced plans to redevelop nearly all 5 acres surrounding it into a world class performing arts district known officially now simply as "DOTHAN LIVE".[19][/20][/21][/22][/23][/24][/25][/26]} There have been three major fires that have occurred within city limits since 2000: one June 17th 2000 when a small fire destroyed most buildings near University Avenue; another December 14th 2001 when an apartment building caught fire causing extensive damage across 2 floors; thirdly October 3rd 2007 when a natural gas leak caused an urban firestorm resulting in over $100 million worthin damage
