The town started to receive mail from Huntsville via horse and buggy from residents of nearby Cullman and Decatur counties. By 1902, Athens-Sandy Springs Railroad had reached Dothan and began service providing passenger trains between Athens and Montgomery each day except Sunday morning which were served by a locomotive operated by the stationmaster. In 1906 the first school building was erected in town with three classrooms/hallways and an auditorium/laboratory used for public school classes as well as private lessons by teachers from Maycomb County Schools when funds became available through state appropriations to build such facilities; however this structure burned down within two years due to lack of maintenance by local officials who saw no need for such an expensive addition to their townspeople' dwellings when they could easily obtain supplies or hire substitutes On October 5th 1909 members of the Alabama Legislature met at Corinth Baptist Church (later rebuilt) located at 2244 Adams Street in what may have been one of only two times Legislatures convened outside of Montgomery since Reconstruction; both sessions took place under new Constitution Article IV Section 1 limitations that all bills must originate with Speaker/ President pro tempore Robert Hethmon (now Chief Justice) not House Members On November 15th 1909 Nathan Bedford Forrest addressed a crowd estimated 300 men including many Confederate veterans assembled outside Cumberland Presbyterian Church 350 yards north east of downtown across Antietam Rd from then current site now known as Chilton Dr SW corner FM 467
