A week later whileJackson was campaigning south of Tallahassee on November 5–7 against Santa Anna's Confederate forces led by Braxton Bragg), Jackson destroyed two bridges over Lookout River just east of modern day Decatur – thus opening up much needed transportation links betweenMobile and central Alabama – thereby erasing any remaining distinction between northern and southernAlabama factions during this pivotal time period for national politics in America.
