Decatur, Alabama is an unincorporated community located in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 5,856. In 1870 there were only 10 residents living in Decatur when it became part of Marshall County after being split from Butler County east of Mobile Bayou (now Indianola). A post office was established at Decatur on January 1, 1870 under mail order from Louisville, Kentucky.
