During Reconstruction following Reconstruction era America had a period of great change which refers to time between 1865-1877 when African Americans started voting en masse for first time and starting their own political parties which later led to civil rights movement; this also includes Black southern cities like Birmingham (Ala.), Nashville (Tennessee), Atlanta (Georgia) which experienced rapid growth due mostly to immigration during this period; these cities saw new waves of black residents who were attracted to jobs available in newly developed industrial suburbs outside of their traditional slaveholding areas such as Mobile, Huntsville/Madison/Ft Worth etc.; many blacks moved into these suburbs because they felt they had no choice but to leave plantations where they were subject to violence or exploitation by whites living within their respective communities - often both groups lived side by side without any type of understanding or coexistence between them despite trying hard to do so throughout most of its history prior thereto; however some progress has been made recently with mixed-race relationships becoming more accepted among some people within certain parts of society towards those races than before due largely to major social changes brought about by feminism and anti-racist movements over recent decades however much work still needs done

The first post office in Decatur was established on January 3, 1837. It operated for one year before being discontinued due to lack of customers. In 1861, the Alabama Legislature created a special committee to study the feasibility of building a new courthouse in Decatur. The committee recommended that the legislature build a new courthouse and provide land for it on State Route 231 between Capitol Square and Court House Square. The bill creating the courthouse passed but no money was ever appropriated to finance it.
