Daphne, Alabama is home to the famous Daphne Shooting Range which was built in 1916. The range is one of the oldest shooting ranges in the United States and has been used for rifle, shotgun, pistol and air gun events. It also has a variety of ranges for children.
Daphne, Alabama is a small town in the US state ofAlabama. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is located in Dothan County. Daphne is named after the asteroid Daphnia. Daphne began as two small settlements on opposite sides of a bend in the Creek River, about three miles east of present-day Birmingham. In 1866, John and Lillie Westbrooks purchased land from the people who had lived there for generations and named their new community after their daughter, Daphnea Westbrooks (1822-1914). A post office was established at Daphnea in 1867, and remained open until it was closed by the Post Office Department on November 15, 1957. The town received its first schoolhouse in 1870. A second schoolhouse was built in 1872; it burned down in 1903. A third building was added to the school district around 1907 when voters approved a bond issue to finance additions to Hilburn School which then served as both schools locales. The first high school opened at this location on September 16, 1912; it became known as Holmes High School after Tuscaloosa Mayor J M Holmes donated $5,000 towards its construction In 1933–34 an addition were constructed to Holmes that included three classrooms and a nurse's station for students with invalidities or diseases such as polio or tuberculosis In 1948–49 an addition were constructed toHolmes that included four classrooms and a movie theater On October 25th 1958 fire destroyed all but one classroom from HilburnSchool which reopened under new management on December 5th 1959 . The last class ever taught at Hilburn housed sixth through eighth grades before its closure effective January 1st 1960 On May 21st 1961 all public schools across Alabama closed due to budget cuts brought about by President John F Kennedy's "Do Not Call Us" campaign

Daphne is a town in Colbert County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,581 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Huntsville metropolitan area. The town was platted in 1881 by W. H. Teague and J. P. White with the name "Alma". Alma was changed to Daphne in 1892 when local farmers decided to change their names to avoid confusion with other towns in the county that bore similar names such as Monroeville and Decatur. Daphne post office opened on November 15, 1893 under the name Alma-Daphne, changing its name again to DAPHNE on January 1, 1897 due to trademark issues with another nearby town called Alma-Decatur which continued using that name until 1951. According to historian Drayton Malone, "the early settlers of DAPHNE were primarily white Methodists from Cecil County who came for religious reasons or because they needed land for themselves and their families." The first black inhabitant of DAPHNE was Mrs. Fannie Cosby who arrived in 1901 after moving from Tuscaloosa, Alabama two years earlier following her husband's death from tuberculosis while serving in the US Army during World War I.. Mrs Cosby's son Willie moved into the community prior to his mother's death in 1952 and continued living there until his own death in 1984. The first school building erected within the limits of present day DAPHNE was a log cabin located east of present day Main Street which served as both a schoolhouse and general store during its early years; it burned down circa 1905 however initial evidence suggests that it may have been rebuilt at some point thereafter In 1902 an addition/renovation project costing $533 was undertaken by Jno Matson of Selma for pupils attending Bellaire School located northofpresentday Main Street; this additions included a new teacher’s cottage (later known as “Mrs Matson”) and additional classrooms/hallways south of present day High Street . Another addition made between 1907-1910 cost $1,500 cash from Mr John Aderholt (a trustee of First Baptist Church) which supported operation and maintenance Of The Second Lake School now known as White Sulphur Springs High School - this addition consisted Of A New Library Building being constructed On The North Side Of Harrison Avenue BetweenMainStreetAnd Little River Road And An Oldsmith Shop & Store Being Renovated On The South Side With A New Kitchen & Bathroom . This second school building also housed Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Chapel which functioned concurrently As A Daycare / Kindergarten Up To Grade 8 From 1916 Until 1954 When That Facility Was closed Due To financial constraints . AccordingToMr Malone “ these buildings represented an important milestone not only because they were built but also because they remained standing until shortly before their demolition c1991″ In 1923 Rev C Rucker became pastor of First Baptist Church In response To request By then Mayor Washington Post For Reverend Rucker To Serve As Pastor At Our LadyOfLourdes Catholic Chapel Which Was Located In An Unoccupied Home Near MainStreetWhich Had Been Next DoorToOldSmithShop&Store Since 1915 . It began as a small community on the Tallapoosa River, about 20 miles south of Montgomery, and soon became an important depot for goods heading north to Mobile andsouth to Huntsville.
