Daphne, Alabama is a small town located in the western part of the state of Alabama. The population was 7,614 at the 2010 census. Daphne is named after the daughter of a pioneer settler, and was founded in 1853 by James W. Dickey. holster history began in Daphne when John Adams made his first holster from an old coat hanger. It wasn't until 1863 that the first holsters were created for pistols by George Stephenson and Daniel Boone Goodwin who also developed methods to make holsters more waterproof and easier to clean. By 1865, there were over 100 businesses in town with over 500 employees making holsters for rifles and shotguns as well as pistols. In 1960, Daphne's population had grown to 11,000 people and its downtown core had become one of the largest shopping districts in Alabama. The city hosted both the annualMobile Bowl game between Auburn and LSU from December 1 through December 5th that year and also experienced heavy waves of African American migration during that period which created many new businesses in downtown including A&W Root Beer Emporiums and Joes' BBQ & Ribs. Daphne, Alabama is a small town located in Baldwin County, Alabama. The population was 11,898 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Baldwin County. In 1881, Daphne was founded by Judge Wm. B. O'Brien and his wife Nancy as a trading post on the Tallapoosa River. In 1907, Daphne became an incorporated town when it amalgamated with other towns in Baldwin County. The original name for Daphne was "Tallapoosa". The first post office in Daphne was established on May 1, 1881 under the name of "New Hope". On October 1, 1882, the post office changed its name to "DAPHNE" after Judge William Boddy's daughter Daphne who had been born in 1793 near present-day Mobile. The first business conducted in DAPHNE was a store operated by James Haney on Main Street between 1840 and 1850. A wagon road leading to Tuscaloosa from Mobile led through this community until it was destroyed by floods in 1905 which destroyed most of downtown; however, some evidence suggests that part of Main Street still exists today as Second Avenue between North Lamar and South Mills Streets (now known as streets names). In 1907, when Baldwin County was created from parts of Montgomery and Etowah Counties, part of what is now eastern Baldwin County went along with it including much of what is now rural areas around DAPHNE including parts of the present day city ofMobile which formed into what is currently known as east Mobile City limits within this boundary change period also during this time period there were significant changes taking place with respect to housing developments including erection or construction OF numerous brick buildings throughout central and southern portions ol Mobile proper particularly along Third Street between Gulfport Boulevard and Fourth Street becoming one major victory for developers during this time frame NOTE: Many years later when East Mobile City boundaries were redrawn following another boundary change event many residential structures westward from Third Street were re-erected within mobile city limits despite prior restrictions placed upon such development BY THE TIME THESE REDUCTIONS WERE EFFECTIVE NO MANY OF THESE RESIDENTS FOUNDED THEIR HOME AGAIN IN THEIR ORIGINAL LOCATION CAMPUS BEING BACK ON 3RD STREET BETWEEN GULFPORT BLVD AND 4TH STREET NOTE: Residents who lived westward from Third Street before 1995 may have difficulty locating their homes because they are no longer located within our current borders having moved into other municipalities or counties
