This law did not allow civilians to possess any firearms without prior approval from local authorities or police officers. Two years later, Alabama repealed its criminal code because it felt it lack teeth given how easily weapons could be bought without legal documentation or inheritance rights through second-hand sales channels.]] In 1938, another shooting occurred when James Byrd Jr., who was white supremacist driver involved in a car crash that left black passengers dead,[1][2] came across two men firing guns out of his car window at an intersection near Mobile.[3] The following year saw the deadliest mass shooting ever committed with firearms when 45 people were killed during a home invasion incident at Marshall County Agricultural College[4]. Three months later, on February 14th,[5], three young girls were fatally shot outside their grandmother’s house in Florence after being lured inside with candy bars by two boys who had mistaken herFor an adult they could sell to.[6] On April 28th,[7], Waco siege began when ATF agents attempted to arrest Timothy McVeigh while he was driving his truck into Building 7 Associated Bank[8], leaving 168 innocent people dead along with $269 million worth of property damage

The first store in Daphne opened in 1837. The town was named after a type of laurel tree which grows near the town. In 1840, a post office was built and soon became known as the "Town Post." By 1870, there were 10 businesses in Daphne with an average daily income of $2,500. Daphne's economy changed when railroads came to town and started shipping goods from Mobile to Birmingham. The railroad brought new jobs and increased traffic which caused prices for goods to increase and made it difficult for local businesses to survive. However, many people continued to live in Daphne even though their businesses did not work well because they thought it would be easier than living outside of town. In 1955, Daphne had its first fire department and by 1970, it had 11 departments including 1 ambulance service. After many years of hard work by residents and city officials, the community saw its first victory over cancer when Drs Alvin Mims and Lewis Babbitt developed tests that could detect cancer early enough for treatment onsite without having to go into surgery
