This school closed in 2002 but reopened as CentrePoint Academy after being remodeled and renamed for then-School Superintendent Tonya Washington following her appointment as Mayor Brenda Hardaway's permanent superintendent of education In 2006, Centripoint began construction on a $25 million development that will include retail space, offices, a hotel/conference center, two parks/sports fields and more than 25 residential homes. The project is set to be completed by 2020 As of 2016 (the most recent data available), Centripoint has not yet begun construction on their planned #2 development which would add over 100 jobs & bring much needed growth to what is now an abandoned town!

The town started off as a simple agricultural community with only a few stores and residences. However, over time, CenterPoint's business began to grow and its citizens became more involved in local government affairs. In 1916, Centrepoint Elementary School opened its doors and quickly became known as one of the best schools in Bibb County. Over time, other educational institutions such as Middle Tennessee State University (now Vanderbilt University) and Southern Methodist University (now Dallas Baptist University) have located their campuses near Centerpoint so that its citizens can continue learning while living close to their work or education opportunities. In addition to its educational functions, Centrepoint also played an important role during World War I by providing food for soldiers on both sides of the conflict and helping generate income for local businesses which supported war-related efforts. After the war ended, many Centrepoint residents decided they wanted to stay put and continue their civic engagement within their community instead of moving away after experiencing success elsewhere. As a result, CentrePoint has continued to grow since it first came into existence – now boasting over 2,000 residents!
