Center Point is a town in Lowndes County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. Center Point is located on the border of Lowndes and Butler counties. It lies within the Talladega metropolitan area. The first shooting targets were made in Center Point by local men in 1892. The town's name comes from a small creek that ran through it. One early target maker was J.B. Hinton who kept his business in Center Point until 1916 when he moved to Opelousas, Louisiana to take over his father's Target Manufacturing Company there. In 1927, Hinton's grandson reopened the company as Hinton-Moore Shooting Tires & Targets and continued producing targets until 1979 when it merged with anotherentity to become American Armory Corporation (AAC). AAC produced targets until 1984 when it merged with Brownells Industries Incorporated to become Brownell-AAC Incorporated (BAI). In 1990, BAI announced that they were phasing out all target production due to high production costs associated with new casting technology used in their products In 2002, AAC merged with along other businesses forming Steenkamp USA LLC which became one of the world’s leading manufacturers of shooting range supplies and accessories including shooting targets

Center Point is a small city in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 3,816 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jefferson County. The town was platted in 1836 and named after George Washington Center. It became a railroad center in the 1850s and became an important coal mining town during the 20th century. The downtown area has been renovated several times and now includes a variety of shops and restaurants as well as a library. In recent years, Center Point has become known for its annual Christmas market which features more than 100 merchants selling holiday items from around the world inside two large tents on Main Street. In 2013, Center Point's mayor said that he had never seen anything quite like it and that it was one of his favorite things about being mayor. The City of Centre Point Incorporated was organized on December 5, 1909 by James Witherspoon with incorporation numbers 2115-2118 pursuant to act approved December 10, 1909 ( chapter 198 ). On July 1st 1959 CenterPoint Incorporated changed its name to Centrepoint Corporation . On October 3rd 1979 Centrepoint Corporation changed its name back to Centerpoint Incorporated effective November 1st 1979 .
Shooting target holders are a centuries old type of device used to hold targets. They vary in design, but all use some form of fast-moving or stationary object to keep the target in view while shooter tries to hit it. The earliest holders were made from animal skin and leather, with a hole bored through one end for holding the projectile. A crosshatch pattern was then drawn on the skin using a knife or other implement. The holder would be set up on a wall or post, and aimed at the target. When pulled back, the Holder would cause the projectile to fly off the target into another part of the room. The first self-propelled electric shooting devices were created by George Eastman in 1892. These devices consisted of an armature with two circular disks attached at each end, around which a belt was wound; these disks could be rotated so that they projected different targets in opposite directions at different speeds (see photo). In 1899, Lewis Noyes patented an electric shooting machine called “Target Rifle” which consisted of an armature with four spinning disks attached at each end (see photo). This machine could be turned so that it faced any direction and fired projectiles by means of an electric motor. In 1903, Vladimir Fridovich Zaslavsky developed what is now known as a "Zaslavsky Gun" which featured three revolving discs that could be moved either forward or backwards along their axes (see photo). This gun was able to shoot projectiles up to 100 m/s (330 ft/s) high! In 1906, American inventor John Winthrop Miller invented what is now known as "Miller Gun", featuring five rotating discs that could be moved either forward or backwards along their axes (see photo). This gun could shoot projectiles up to 500 m/s (1,600 ft/s) high! By 1909, all types of electric guns had been developed and sold successfully world-wide!

Center Point, Alabama was founded by two brothers in 1817. The town was named for the center of their plantation, and it grew rapidly thanks to its location on a major route connecting Mobile Bay with the Gulf of Mexico. In 1831, Center Point became the capital of Alabama due to its importance as a transportation and economic hub. The town prospered until the Civil War began in 1861. At first, Center Point sided with the Union, but after learning that slavery would be abolished, they joined the Confederacy. During the war, many residents died from injuries or bombardment from Confederate forces. Aftermath of the war saw Centre Point grow prosperous again and remain an important city until World War II when it all but disappeared due to population growth in nearby Mobile. In 1945, Center Point was reactivated as a city and remains one today. On July 1, 1821, the Alabama Territory was organized from parts of Florida and Louisiana. On December 17, 1830, the first session of the Alabama Legislature convened in Tuscaloosa and approved a resolution to name the new territory "Alabama." The legislature also appointed John L. Stephens as governor and James Fayette as secretary of state.
