Center Point is the name of a small creek which flows through the town and provides water to several homes. The first knife that was made in Center Point was a wooden Bowie Knife by A.H. Armstrong on October 12th, 1892. The popularity of this type of knife led to other manufacturers producing similar knives such as USI Knives and Nighthawk Cutlery Company. In 1952, CenterPoint Sporting Goods Co., Inc., was founded with the goal of becoming an industry leader in sporting goods sales and marketing throughout Southwest Alabama. Center Point is a small town in Centre County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. Center Point is located on the Gulf of Mexico. It is the easternmost community in Centre County and one of its only towns. The name "Center Point" comes from an early settler's idea that this location could serve as a center for trade and travel between central Alabama and Mobile Bay. The town was founded in 1878 by nine men who pooled their money to purchase land near what is now downtown Centre Point. They named their settlement after President George Washington's Mount Vernon plantation, which lay just east of them on Crawford Shoals Sound. In 1886, the town began receiving mail from Post Office Box 5553, which served as its namesake until 1978 when it became known as Centerpoint Mail Services Incorporated. In 1903, Centerpoint began offering its own school system and in 1918 purchased land at what is now Westshore Mall to build a shopping complex that remains today one of the most important commercial centers in town. In 1977, Centerpoint also built the first municipal building in Centre County - a two-story wood frame structure used until 1998 for county government functions before being replaced by a more modern facility that still stands today. Today, Centerpoint continues to be an important community with many businesses and residents who enjoy spending time there primarily because of its beautiful scenery along the Gulf of Mexico and rich history dating back to 1878 when nine men pooled their money to establish it as a small town

Center Point is a small town in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,969 at the 2010 census. The name comes from nearby Center Mountain and the point where the two mountains meet. The first post office in Center Point was established in 1872. It served as the junction of several trails that led to and from Birmingham. This made it an important stop on stagecoach routes connecting Birmingham with other parts of Alabama and Tennessee. In 1903, Center Point residents voted to incorporate as a village. They did this to promote commerce and education within their community. In 1912, the village was renamed Center Point after local benefactor Jens Jensen donated $10,000 for the erection of a downtown library and school building. The centerpiece ofCenter Point's infrastructure were its two churches- First Baptist Church (founded in 1896) and Methodist Episcopal Church (founded in 1907). Together they formed what is now one of America's oldest evangelical denominations. The churches are still active today and continue to serve as important civic landmarks within their communities. The first white people to arrive in what is now Alabama were the Creek Indians. Until the late 18th century, most of Alabama was uninhabited and undeveloped. The area that is now Alabama was part of the Cherokee Nation until 1765, when Spain ceded it to Britain in the Treaty of Madrid. From 1800 to 1813, U.S. troops winterized and built Fort Gaines on the Coosa River near Sunflower City in central Alabama. In 1814, a group of American soldiers led by General Andrew Jackson came across a trade route from Mobile Bay through present-day Georgia to Pensacola, Florida and discovered oil well sites in Tuscaloosa County. The town of Mobile was founded as a result of this discovery.

The original settlers in Centre Point were Methodists and Baptists who came from Tennessee. In 1878, brothers John and James Caldwell opened the first store in Centre Point and it became a mainstay of the community until it closed its doors in 1977. In 1895, Alexander Henningsopened his first grocery store in Centrepoint and it continued to be a major player in the community until it closed its doors in 1990. Today there are several small businesses that operate within the town limits including two restaurants: Chippenham's Southern Comfort and Causeway Seafood & Steakhouse; one hardware store; four banks; three churches (Methodist, Baptist, Episcopal); one nursing home; three schools (grades K-12); one professional golf club (Chattahoochee Hills Country Club).
