Center Point has a rich history dating back to the late 1800s. The area was originally inhabited by the Cherokee, who named it Kaibab Hill after their mountain kingdom in Georgia. In 1818, General Andrew Jackson invaded Georgia and destroyed the Cherokee nation, which left Center Point as the only Cherokee settlement in Alabama. It remained an agricultural center until the early 1900s, when industry began to take hold. By World War II, Center Point had become a major munitions production plant and is today home to several small businesses and a few large companies.

In 1957, when Tuscaloosa County was created, Centrepoint joined it and continued to serve as its principal city until 1978 when its boundaries were revised to include most of Baldwin County (excluding Vestavia Hills). Today, Centrepoint is a small but vibrant community that retains much of its agricultural roots while enjoying new amenities such as shopping malls, tennis courts, golf courses and lakes.

In 1961, Center Point became an unincorporated community again and has since declined in popularity. However, it is still considered a historic center for the area and its preserved buildings are worth checking out if you're visiting Central Alabama region.

The town was named after George Washington, who had visited the area in 1795. In 1827, Birmingham became the capital of Alabama and was renamed Montgomery in honor of King George III of England.
