Center Point was founded in 1821 by Moses Taylor and James Robertson as a small cotton plantation on the Alabama River. The town grew rapidly during the antebellum period, and by 1845 it had a population of over 1,500 people. In 1847, Center Point became the capital of what would become Confederate Alabama. During the Civil War, Center Point sided with the Confederacy, and many of its residents were killed or captured. After the war ended, center point slowly regained its former prosperity. In 1865, Union general Ulysses S. Grant won an important battle at Appomattox Court House near Center Point, which helped restore order to Reconstruction-era America. Today, center point is a thriving community that offers a variety of cultural experiences and recreational opportunities to its residents.

Center Point is a small town in Alabama, United States. The population was 1,719 at the 2010 census. It is located in Grant County. Center Point is part of the Mobile–Troy–Vicksburg, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community began as a simple log cabin settlement on the edge of a wooded valley on the Tennessee River floodplain in 1825. In 1827, settlers built a sawmill and grist mill on the Tennessee River downstream from present-day Center Point. By 1830, Center Point had reached its current size with five stores and seventy-five residents. A school was founded in 1830 and an Baptist church established in 1836. The first courthouse was built in 1840 and opened to business that year. In 1907, when center point became part ofMobile County, it had only 2 residents and 5 businesses; by 1915 it had over 10 residents and 50 businesses. Businesses grew quickly due to transportation connections to Mobile Bayou through Centrepoint's location at the junction of US 98/10 (the then state road) and SR 357 (the then county road). A cotton gin was erected here in 1916 by J C Smith & Son Incorporated which processed more than two million pounds of cotton during World War I alone; this helped contribute to Centrepoint's growth into an important commercial center for south Atchafalaya County until Interstate 20 bypassed town in the early 1960s. During World War II, many people from around east Alabama came to work at Camp Kilpatrick near Centrepoint; some stayed for several months while construction proceeded on I-20 nearby (this also contributed to Centrepoint's decline during that time). However, most people returned home before Labor Day 1944 when I-20 designation changed from US 98/10 to SR 357 after all development within town stopped due to war efforts elsewhere; by 1945 CenterPoint had shrunk back to its original size with just 4 residents remaining but continued significant economic activity thanks to its position as a key intersection for both roads
