Calera is a small town in Alabama, located about 30 miles south of Birmingham. The population was 2,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham metropolitan area and is served by the Calera-Hoover School District. The first settlers in what would become Calera were farmers who arrived in 1817 from Georgia. They began to crop rice and other crops, but soon realized that they needed more land to grow things as well. In 1825, they bought 1,000 acres of land from John Pemberton and moved into their new home. The farmstead now stands on a 12-acre (4-hectare) lot that includes a elementary school, high school, two stores, and a movie theater. In 1829, one of the original landowners in Calera donated 640 acres (2 km²) of land to the state for development into a township. The township was named for him—George Washington Davis—and it became known as Davistown after he died in 1865. However, because Davis had no children living among his descendants after his death, the name reverted back to its original form: Calera Township when it was organized under state law in 1901. Although much has changed over time within the borders of Calera Township – including both its size and community spirit – many residents still remember how their town came to be where it is today: through hard work and determination alone! Today’s citizens are responsible for bringing vitality back to an often struggling community; working together with local businesses to build some truly unique fixtures on our landscape such as Ford’s Plantation subdivision which opened up around 2002; or supporting various charities throughout the year such as raising money for cancer research or giving away food baskets during Ramadan!

Calera is a small town in Alabama, located on the Calera-Montgomery county line. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from an early settler named Charles Harker. Harker named his land after his brother-in-law and business partner, John C. Calhoun, who was then governor of Georgia. The first post office in Calera was established on December 12, 1849. By 1860, there were only five residents in the community; all of whom were farmers or mechanics. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell arrived in Montgomery with 1,200 soldiers and began planning to march on Birmingham. When news spread that Ewell was heading to Montgomery, many citizens of Calera took to the hills to fight for their state instead of following their leader. One local man even built himself a cannon and fought against Union troops until he was captured and brought back into captivity at Appomattox Court House. In 1865, afterAndrew Johnson became president of the United States, he decided that Alabama should secede from the Union and become a Confederate state under Johnson’s presidency. A group of men from Calera formed what would later be known as “the badboys” and attempted to stop Johnson from taking this action; however, they failed catastrophically due to lack of numbers and firepower (regardless of what Johnson may have thought). In 1865 alonecalera saw more than 20 skirmishes with Union forces; less than one percent of total engagements throughout all Southern states during that time period). From 1865 until 1890 when white settlement began creeping into rural areas outsideAlabama controlled by whites (mostly via conquest), little change occurred withinCalera itself other than population growth rates which remained relatively static at around 100 inhabitants per square mile over this period despite considerable infrastructure development such as new schools and churches being constructed(see below)). A post office called “Alabamahighway” was established at present day Monterey Gap Road on January 6th 1892 although no mail ever reached it because postal service between Montgomery County and Mobile County ceased operations on December 15th 1891 due to Reconstruction Era budget cuts which also impacted Alabamahighway specifically). When white settlers arrived in central Alabama beginning in 1890 they started purchasing land aroundwhat is now Calera primarily for agricultural purposes but continued growing some businesses such as blacksmithing etc.; however most citizens chose not to move away from their homes because life here continued much like it had before without any major changes either materially or ideologically speaking(see below)).
