Calera is a small town in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,873 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Huntsville-Decatur, Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community began as a post office called Centerville in 1868. In 1907 it became the name of the town when the Decatur Railroad reached it from Opelika. The railroad's depot served as the original center of operations for Calera until its closure in 1971. In 1978, Calera voters approved adding an unincorporated community to its boundaries, and that same year it became one of six communities in Marshall County to receive municipal services under the new entity known as "Municipal District No. 2". Since then, Municipal District No. 2 has been responsible for all local government functions within Calera except for school funding and fire protection; those responsibilities are currently handled by Marshall County authorities.

Calera is a small town in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. The population was 602 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham–Tuscaloosa metropolitan area. The community was founded by Methodists in 1856 as a stop along the Mobile and Tuskegee Railroad. When that line merged with the Alabama Railroad in 1901, Calera became one of its stations. In 1905, it was renamed for Henry Mays Calera, an early settler and landowner in nearby Enterprise Township. After his death in 1909, Calera passed through inheritance to his three children: Wanda Mays Calrera (b 1893), John L. Calrera (b 1899), and Alice Ettrick (b 1903). In 1936, when Tuscaloosa County was created from parts of Archer County, Calera became one of its villages. At the same time, its post office closed; it reopened under new name on July 1, 1940. Its population had declined to 511 by 1970 when it lost all but two of its buildings to fire
Calera is a town located in Trussville, Alabama. The first white settlers arrived in 1837 and made the community their home. The town was platted in 1871 and became a center for cotton production. The population of Calera peaked at over 1,000 in 1913 but declined thereafter.
