At that time it had a population of 2,948 people and included parts of Greenville to the east and Coffee Creek to the west which made up what are now Carrollton Township and Livingston Township respectively; all villages within Marshall County at that time. During World War II most residents were employed in production facilities associated with military munitions production plants throughout northeast Alabama including Smithers Arsenal (now part of Auburn University) and Decatur Arsenal (now part of MTS Energy). However some families also migrated to rural areas during this wartime period due to economic depression brought about by rationing programs following World War I
