Bessemer is one of the older cities in Alabama and has been around since 1837 when Captain John Bessemer founded what is now called Bessemer City on land he purchased from Creek Indians. The first post office in Bessemer was established in 1838. The name "Bessemer" originated from French: "Belle-Maire", meaning beautiful maid or female servant. The first settlers were French Canadian colonists who came to what is now Tuscaloosa County in 1837 looking for new land to farm after their return from exile in Canada following the War of1812. They named their new community Belle Isle after a beautiful woman they had seen while traveling through Kentucky on their way back to Canada. Captain John Bessemer, a successful Confederate army officer and local resident, donated most of his land to be developed into an agricultural township which became known as Bessemer City limits today’s downtown area with its many historically significant buildings dating back to 1840 including the old courthouse which still stands today (listed on the National Register of Historic Places). Englishman James Fenton moved here from Mobile, Alabama some time before 1840 also making this town one of first English settlements east of Mexico City Bay Co., New York Territory USA during that period. He set up his millinery store next door on Old Court Street which continued until 1906 when it burned down due to a faulty stovepipe heat exchanger! In 1843 Captains John Aitken and George Stephenson built a steamboat dock at what is now Harbor Island just upstream from present day downtown Bessemer where they deposited passengers for transportation along then river below until 1865 when all boats were replaced by railroadboats operating out of Montgomery Station on Black River later called Big Muddy River by those who populated downstream along that same route starting about 1900 including native Alabamians such as Cherokee Chief Joseph Easley who ranched there until his death circa 1935 near present day White Hall Landing Bridge over Big Muddy River just upstream from downtown Bessemers oldest extant structure still standing today - it's listed on the National Register Of Historic Places as well! This very early commercial development helped make possible growth thereafter with mills, shops and other businesses opening up along Railroad Avenue (now First Avenue) southward soon followed by larger blocks housing more than 200 dwellings built between 1850-1900 inclusive only west side portions remaining unincorporated continuing this pattern until 1912 when incorporated village formed by combining portions west side portions forming Downtown Business District with east side portions becoming West Side Business District within current boundaries existing since 1957! To this day Downtown business district remains vibrant with several high quality restaurants & bars located throughout 6 blocks plus two major shopping areas - North End mall extending uptown pastcurrent limits currently lasting into 2020 located adjacent former Buttonwillow Baptist Church used as a showroom/assemblery storage facility prior thereto discovered during recent renovation project complete fall 2016 ext'l; Tucker Elementary School across street Residence Place formerly known as “Homespun Home” belonging originally to Reverend C.L Gilliam (1811-1892) rector & school trustee for Episcopal churches founded by Rev Dr William Doddridge second pastor Presbyterian church located adjoining original Presbytery courthouse Lots formerly part of plantation extended eastward lying underlying surface waters included Dutch Reformed missionary family name Easley taken from creek bottom stream originates adjacent Hogback Plantation Estate owned & operated by Mrs JF Herron (1906-1996) widowof Dr JF Herron Jr son(est.) operation commenced 1975
Scope mounts have a long and varied history, dating back to the early days of firearms. There are many different types and sizes of scope mounts, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The first type of scope mount was the Weaver rail mount. This consisted of two rails that could be attached to the barrel muzzle end in order to provide limited adjustment. The advantage of this type of mount was that it allowed for relatively minor adjustments, making it ideal for use with slower-moving guns such as rifles. However, because the Weaver rail mount was not adjustable in height or width, it was not very accurate and required precise alignment in order to achieve perfect accuracy. Another early type of scope mount was the Picatinny railmount, which consisted of four rails that could be attached directly to the barrel breech end. This allowed for more general adjustment but also caused problems due to their bulky design. Because they were so large and difficult to move around, many users found them uncomfortable to use and eventually discontinued their use entirely. Additionally, these mounts were not very accurate because they did not allow for quick changes in elevation or windage at short range; instead, they had to be adjusted slowly over time in order to achieve desirable results. As time passed and new advances were made in firearms technology, new types ofscope mounts became available on the market. One such advance was the MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny Rail Mounts (PMR), which featured five Rails that could be attachable at various points along the rifle's length in order to adjust Elevation/ Windage/ Firearm Positioning (FFP) without havingto dismount from your firearm! This gave shooters a much wider range of adjustments when using optics than ever before possible! Additionally, these mounts were much more reliable than earlier types because they feature metal construction that does not rust or corrode over time. As a result, MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny Rail Mounts continue to remain one of the most popular typesof Scope Mounts onthe market today!
