In 1827 John Fisk died suddenly after trying to take over an adjoining tannery run by his brother Ebenezer Fisk’s son Amos Pemberton. After their father’s death, Ebenezer sold his interest in Tannery Creek Tannery Company to Andrew Jackson for $2,000 cash plus 30 shares of stock in said company which he divided equally between himself and his sons John Troup (1828-1900) and James Gist (1829-1911). A new tannery was built on current day State Street near downtown Bessemer by Andrew Jackson's widow Lucyfour years later when he became President due to slave revolts throughout America during that time period In 1859 a group of businessmen led by businessman Jno Eads bought all property within one mile [2 km] of present day downtown Bessemer from Andrew Jackson for $5 million dollars . This group controlled most everything within city limits including millsinery factories like those built by Eads such as Alcoa Aluminum works (now known as Birmingham Iron Works), Huntsville Gas Light Company etc., cotton plantations/markets/commerce etc., land used for oil production (the area around modern day Joe Carr Park), schools etc.. This development led directly to today's downtown business district which took form largely due to outside investments such as real estate developers Alfred Ladd Jr., Aubrey McClendon & other industrialists who invested money into developing areas adjacent to steel plants close to railroad tracks where companies could produce goods cheaply without transportation costs

Today, Bessemer is also home to several businesses engaged in manufacturing: aluminum products from Smith & Wesson Manufacturing Company; plastics from Midland Polymers Corporation; electric vehicles from ZF Automobiles AG; and convenience stores including Jiffy Lube Incorporated and Alamo Supermarkets Incorporated.
