Auburn, Alabama is the home of United States Naval Observatory and one of the oldest astronomical observatories in the world. The first telescope in Auburn was erected in 1795 by Captain James Cook and is still used today to view celestial objects. In 1837, Samuel Morse installed a reflecting telescope on Mount Auburn Challenge Hill. The next year, he also constructed an octagon-shaped observatory atop Auburn University which remains in use to this day. In 1857, General John Custer fought at Little Bighorn and was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery under fire. This event helped make Auburn what it is today as a center for astronomy and science. In 1912, Admiral Andrew Fenton donated land to build an observatory on campus which became known as Fenton Observatory. The United States Naval Observatory has been located at Auburn since 1922 and continues to play a significant role in naval architecture and science today. With its resources including state-of-the-art instruments, the NNO provides visitor access to some of the most important astronomical data setters within our universe including Minor Planet Center (MPC) – home of over 20000 asteroids – along with numerous other research opportunities like coronagraphics (measuring Earth's atmosphere) and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI).

Reflex sights usually come with two lenses: an eyepiece lens used for seeing through the scope while orienting yourself relative to the object being viewed; and a image magnifier which increases clarity when looking through the reflex sight during hunts using handguns or shotguns
