Arthur Brown invented the first scope mount and it was used on a rifle named “Bolt action Rifle No. 2” made by George Stephenson. This rifle was designed as an infantry weapon and it allowed the user to adjust their aiming position with ease. Scope mounts were later developed into different types and designs, but they all had one common goal: To make shooting your firearms easier and more consistent. The early Scope Mounts design featured two arms that would hinge along the vertical y-axis to change the viewing angle of the mounted firearm. They also included a circular base that would rest on either ground or an elevated surface, allowing for various mounting positions (such as prone, bipod, etc). In 1938, Orville Noyes patented his own design for a scope mount which he called the “Noyes Mount”. This mount incorporated four metal legs which could be rotated about an axis perpendicular to the bore axis so that any desired aiming position could be achieved without having to move your rifle around too much. It is this type of mount which is still in use today and it has beenubiited by many shooters over the years including those who use rifles caliber up to 24 calibers! There is no definitive answer to this question since the expansion of the Auburn University campus in 1911. However, some historians believe that a mount for a rifle was added to the east side of Tuscaloosa Hall on November 5, 1912. This mount consisted of a metal frame with an attached tree-like rail system. The rifle could be rotated so that it faced in any direction and the ammunition could be stored beneath the barrel. In 1927, there was an addition to Tuscaloosa Hall which included a new gymnasium and Rifle Range.
