In 1957–1958 several explosions rocked downtown Auburn shortly before national guard troops moved into town to quell riots following successful integration efforts at an all-white high school football game between rival schools Signal Hill High School And Birmingham Southern Collegerification brought about change starting early with plans relocated from old downtown buildings into modernist structures including Bankhead Hall which would become home office for then new governor Don Sitton’s Administration Economic development also spawned with development proposals centered around Interstate 5 south of town along now US 82 known as “Auburn Hills” only later renamed Airport Boulevard towards Mobile followed by larger developments such as FirstEnergy Stadium located adjacent today’s Tyson Foods plant adjacent Interstate 665 just north of current day Midtown mall
