Atmore is a small town in Alabama, located on the banks of the Mobile River. It was founded by Captain Samuel Atmore in 1814 as an outpost on the Chickasaw Trail. The town grew quickly, and by 1836 it had acquired its present form. In 1870, Atmore became the seat of government for Mobile County. In 1905, Atmore was designated as the capital of Mobile County. The town has grown steadily since then, and today it features a population of around 20,000 people. Although its economy is based largely on agriculture and business activities such as manufacturing and tourism, Atmore also has a growing nightlife scene that includes several bars and nightclubs. The history of Atmore begins with Captain Samuel Atmore's arrival in 1814 on the Chickasaw Trail from Georgia. He decided to establish an outpost along this important route because he believed that the region could support many people and businesses combined. By 1836, at least 10 other small communities had been established throughout southeastern Alabama by entrepreneurs eager to capitalize on what they saw as new opportunities opened up due to increased trade with Mississippi and Tennessee. The first mayor of Atmore was James Witherspoon (1821-1824). He served under Governor John Tyler during both his terms in office (1829-30; 31-35). After leaving office he engaged in various entrepreneurial ventures before dying suddenly at age 67 while still serving as mayoralty candidate for District No 7 in Mobile County - one of only two successful bids made during Tyler's third term (1837-40). After Witherspoon's death original plans were formulated to move the county seat from Huntsville to AtMORE but these proposals died when Yamhill County joined Alabama Statehood in 1907 which eliminated all rural voting districts withinMobile County making it impossible for any city or village within that boundaries to exist independently again without prior approval from the state legislature! Accordingly On July 1st 1909 at 3pm all villages/townships within Rangeleylimits including(but not limited to)Atmeretta(!!), Brentwood,, Cartersville,, Corinth,, Daphne,, Selma,, Springdale etc., merged into MobileCounty becoming part of newly formed Municipality Of Auburn!!! This event led directly to current nightlife culture hereabouts!!!!
Atmore was founded on May 3, 1819 by General Andrew Jackson. The town is located in the east central portion of Alabama and is home to a number of historically significant sites.
