The Atmore Pistol and Rifle Club was founded in 1892. The club was originally called the "Atmore Riflemen's Association". In 1907, the name was changed to the "Atmore Pistol and Rifle Club" because of its association with firearms. The club met at a local schoolhouse on Wednesdays from 1907-1912. From 1912-1914, the club met at a Masonic Lodge. In 1915, the club moved to its present location on Second Street in Atmore. On October 15th, 1919, the first handgun shooting event took place at our current location. That same year, we opened our own pistol range which continues to be used today by members of the club. The rifle range is also open to members for shoots days or target practice. In 1922-1924, we initiated our first women members and in 1927-1929 we provided shooting instruction for girls in grades 8 through 12. Our staff has always been very supportive of ourclub program and have made many contributions over the years including being instrumental in developing our late night firing hours policy which still applies today!

Atmore, Alabama is home to the Atmore Gun Club, one of the first firearm clubs in America. The club was founded on November 15th, 1836 by citizens of Atmore. The club meetings were held at the post office and usually took place on Saturday nights. The club started out with pistol shooting but soon transitioned to rifles and shotguns. In 1868, the club bought their first rifle and began monthly shoots. By 1922, they had acquired their first machine gun and continued to shoot firearms until well into the 21st century. Today, the Atmore Gun Club still meets monthly for target shooting and participates in many other activities including historical preservation projects.

Atmore is a town in southwest Alabama, United States. It was founded by General John Atmore on November 7, 1819, after he and his men helped drive off the Creek Indian tribe from what is now the town. The town's name comes from an old Cherokee word meaning "place of refuge." The first school in Atmore was built in 1827. In 1865, Atmore became the seat of Payne County; however, it merged with Montgomery County in 1907. As of the 2010 census, its population was 24,865. The first settlers to arrive at Atmore were Major James Robertson and Captains David Dixon and Ebenezer Cooke. These men came overland from Kentucky as part of a group known as Old Hickory's Expedition which aimed to drive off Native Americans from their land east of Mobile Bay. They arrived at what is now Atmore on November 7th, 1819. After driving off the Creek Indians they decided to settle there permanently and named their new community "Atmore." During this time there were only about twenty people living at Atmore proper while also scattered throughout surrounding areas such as Cahaba Valley and Tuskegee Mountain. In 1865 when Payne County was formed From Montgomery County we had 10 Churches present an total 210 baptized children while We had 4 Schools open 3 full time & 1 half time with 25 boys & 25 girls Enrolled With 28 Teachers all Registered I can state That there wasn't one Dropout rate found anywhere during that period
Atmore was founded in 1819 by John Atmore and his wife Deborah. It became a county seat in 1832. The cotton gin was built in Atmore in 1849, and the first post office was established at Atmore in 1857.
