In 1831, Jackson founded what became known as White City on land west of present-day downtown Anniston. This was because he wanted people living near him to have access to education and healthcare so that they could prevent future wars from happening between America's northern slave states and Mexico's southern Isthmus Of Tejas region. When cotton began becoming an important crop in early 19th century America, textile mills were established in nearby Decatur and Birmingham for making textiles such as calico cloths and drapes; these mills created jobs for many local families who did not have access to traditional farming or manufacturing opportunities elsewhere in Alabama at that time. Industrialization increased demand for goods made in America other than just textiles during this period – farmers lost their markets due to technological advances brought about by industrialists such as George Stephenson who invented locomotives after discovering how transportation could be improved using railroads. In 1836Jackson vetoed a bill proposed by Senator James K assassination designed create a national bank which would have helped farmers obtain loans they could useto improve their businesses; this event led some citizens into forming the "Masonic Order" which became known as "The Knights Templar."
