In 1907 it again annexed Vestavia Hills; however this time for more agricultural land than commercial development. From 1912 until 1955 only manufacturing took place within city limits with no businesses or residences being developed outside of it; however this changed when steel mills were built throughout most Alabama during that time period including aroundAlexander City making it possible for residents there to commute into jobs inside or outside of Birmingham without having to leave their homes or communities
