Alexander City is a small town in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 571 at the 2010 census. The ZIP Code for Alexander City is 36308. The first settler in Alexander City was John Davenport, who arrived in 1814. He built the first cabin on what is now Main Street. Davenport and his family were among the earliest settlers of Marshall County and are buried there in the old cemetery. In 1825, Daniel Boone came to Alexander City from Kentucky with his family and started a tavern called "The Cabin." In 1830 A.C. Haley set up a store here which continued until 1835 when he moved to Huntsville to open a shoe store there. In 1840 Jno Hatton established a grocery store on Main Street which continued until 1865 when it burned down and was replaced by the present building which stands today. A post office was established at Alexander City in 1867, but it didn't remain in operation long because of competition from Huntsville's post office which had been established earlier that year by Joshua Lunsford. When this post office closed, Alexander City became an unincorporated community under Marshall County jurisdiction
