Gun mags have a long and varied history in Alexander City, Alabama. The earliest reference to gun magazines is from 1827, when Captain John Sibley of the United States Navy organized a magazine for his shipmates. From then until 1890, there were only six gunsmiths in Alexander City. The first printed reference to magazines in Alabama is from 1868, when the Confederate States of America published an issue of their "Alabama Republican." In that year, gunfighter Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest established the first rifle range in Alexander City and used it to fire off rounds from his Weapons Factory rifle. By 1860, there were over 100 gunsmiths in Alexander City. The following year saw the beginning of what would be an extensive paper trade monopoly by James Wickersham of Mobile Bay Company: he began publishing "The Birmingham Journal" with a weekly circulation of thirty-six issues per week. Gun magazines soon became popular among soldiers and sailors stationed at Mobile Bay as well as locals who could not afford to buy them individually or subscribe to periodicals on credit. In 1871, Wickersham introduced electric printing technology into magazine production by using two 3-inch copper plates which were fed through a rotating drum that produced twenty sheets per minute. This new method permitted him to publish multiple issues per week instead of one every other day as before; this allowed for more comprehensive coverage of events surrounding Mobile Bay and made it easier for readers outside Alexander City to follow the news. With increased access to information via print media,gunmagazines quickly became an important part of military life in Alabama during the late 19th century. While Magazine production declined during the early 20th century due largely to World War I (serving as little purpose other than propagandist propaganda), machine printing resumed after Prohibition ended in 1933 and continued until 1945 when all magazines were finally discontinued due to political correctness reasons (see also American Rifle Association). Alexander City is a small town located in Jefferson County, Alabama. The population was 1,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham-Tuscaloosa-Hoover metropolitan area. The first people to live in Alexander City were the Creek Indians who lived along the Altamaha River. They were displaced by white settlers after a treaty was made between Chief Osceola and General Andrew Jackson in 1818. In 1865, Confederate General Braxton Bragg passed through Alexander City on his way to Chattanooga to fight against Union troops. His men stopped at the town for dinner and then went on their way. Alexander City was called "New Alexandria" by its founders because it boasted an arsenal and new courthouse they had constructed in that year. In 1880, it became the seat of Jefferson County when it was created from portions of Tuscaloosa, Etowah, and Clarke counties. The community experienced economic hardship during World War II due to crop failures caused byarthritis brought on by bombing raids over Alabama during that war. However, since 1945 Alexander City has seen significant growth as a result of heavy industry which has driven away many of the old businesses and replaced them with more modern facilities such as a post office, hospital, school district offices, warehouse/fabrication plants and other businesses

Alexander City is located in Butler County, Alabama and is the seat of Butler County government. The city was founded in 1825 by Alexander Caldwell, a settler from Kentucky. The Caldwell family operated a grocery store and post office in the city until it closed its doors in 1922. Alexander City experienced numerous changes during its history. In 1865, the town was burned to the ground by Confederate forces during the Battle of Alexander City. In 1892, Alexander City became a county seat after Butler County was created from part of Mobile County. The county courthouse was built in 1895 and it remained active until 1978 when it was destroyed by fire. In 1924, Alexander City hosted the Cotton States Fair which featured exhibits from all over America. In 1938, the local paper company merged with another paper company andAlexander City ended its independent existence as an entity within that larger organization.
