Together they developed what is now one of America's largest tire companies - Prentiss Rubber Company - which employs more than 2,000 people today across four states includingAlabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas; Hargrave Paper Company which manufactures paper products such as paper towels and envelopes;andGBI Broadcasting Inc., which operates three television stations in central Alabama with a total audience reach totaling more than 93% statewide...Alexander City has also long been home to some very successful business families including that of Gene Simmons Sr., founder/CEO/president/chief operating officer Sirius XM Radio Holdings Inc.; his son Gene Simmons Jr.'s wife Lisa Marie Stewart; her sister Kathy Lee Simmons; their brother Ronny Simmons; their uncle Herb Kapp (founder/CEO Lamar Advertising Co.) - all descended from Scots immigrants who arrived in Mobile Bayou early nineteenth century...In recent years there has also been increased attention paid to our local wine industry with several wineries having opened up shop here over the past few years...It is no surprise then that so much activity takes place within our tight-knit community - especially given its proximity to both Montgomery County (home to Birmingham) and Birmingham itself."
