Albertville is a town in Montgomery County, Alabama, United States. The population was 5,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham-Tuscaloosa-Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was organized on December 12, 1871, by citizens of two other towns in Montgomery County - Alma and Millbrook - as a result of the Sherman–Abernethy Land Claims Settlement Act of 1871. At its peak in 1920, Albertville had a population of 11,500 people. However, by 1930 it had shrunk to 4,000 residents due to increased competition from nearby Birmingham and Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University). In 1940 it lost its high school status and became an all-purpose township. The town's ZIP code is 35213. The town hall is located at 601 Railroad Avenue. The first post office in Albertville was established on December 12, 1871; it operated for four years until it was replaced by the current one on May 9, 1880. The first settler in what would become Albertville was John Crouch who arrived from Fulton County on October 7, 1870 with his family. He started out clearing land for farming but soon realized that he wanted to establish himself as a town because there were no churches or schools in his area and he thought that this would be an opportunity to improve his lot since most settlers did not have such luxuries when they arrived in Alabama Colony townships (the precursor to today's counties). In 1881 the first courthouse building was built which later served as the municipal offices until 1966 when they were moved into their present location on Railroad Avenue. In 1907 the village square measuring 1/2 mile wide and 3/4 mile long was dedicated which included a public park with tennis courts etc.. Today there are several businesses located around this square including: Funeral Home & Cemetery Estates Inc., A&J Ambrosial Baking Company Inc., Fordson Baptist Church Inc., Dr Pepper Bottling Co., Iron Works Physical Therapy Center LLC., Mrs Hargrave's Bakery Inc., Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.. In addition to these stores many homes have been built recently within walking distance of either downtown or the square including: Joe Gibbs Winery LLC-, Community Credit Union Headquarters Building,-GMC Village Development Corporation Ltd.-Old Post Office Place.-Albertville Township Hall.-Dolby Theatre company LLP-. As more businesses opened up throughout the late 1990s and 2000s Albertville experienced rapid growth with new housing developments being constructedalmost every year during this time period culminating with over 100 buildings having been erected between 2002 and 2014 according to data collected by ALDI supermarkets chain along with local government records . Despite this rapid growth however some residents feel that social services have not kept up with changes brought about by technology like online banking making grocery shopping difficult if not impossible . As a county seat, Albertville had several businesses including three banks, two cotton warehouses, seven churches, and four schools. The population of Albertville ranged from about 2,000 to 10,000 people during its peak years around 1870-1880. In 1912, the last post office closed in Alabama; however, it still remains an active community today with a population of about 20 residents located within the city limits of Albertville proper as well as scattered communities within unincorporated areas thereof. With its rich history dating back more than 150 years (and counting),Albertville is one ofAlabama's most unique communities – both historically speaking and economically speaking!
