All three developments are listed on Property Management Association website as having over 2 million square feet or 310 acres under management with plans underway for even more acreage including several large shopping malls downtown as well as offices and other commercial development throughout downtown Alabaster Valley between US highways 62 & 90 exits 246 & 249 with plans for up to 100 miles² (.39 sq mi) additional development potential [2]. Alabaster, Alabama is an unincorporated community in Clarke County, Alabama, United States. It is located on the eastern side of the town of Huntsville. The name Alabaster comes from a historic spelling of "al-Bath," which was used by early settlers to refer to the site. The first settler in Alabaster was John Hinton. He and his family moved to this location around 1819. In 1824, George Washington Hardin laid out a townsite here and named it after himself - Hardin's Cave. A post office called Alabaster was established in 1828, and remained in operation until 1907. A schoolhouse was built here in 1835; it burned down in 1901. A Methodist Episcopal church was erected here about 1840; it also burned down. The present day Shell gas station stands at the intersection of Ulysses S Grant Boulevard and Upson Road near where the first store stood on this site (it opened as The Huntsville Store on November 5, 1889). The store closed its doors for good on July 15, 1951 following a fire that destroyed most of its building . In 1924, Roy Wilcox donated land southwest of town to make way for what would becomeHuntsville Municipal Airport (HMA). Wilcox also donated money towards construction thereof which began almost immediately following his death in 1925. That same year saw the opening of the townsite's first grocery store - The Huntsville Grocery & Meats Company - by local grocer Wm Gourley Sr.. Other early businesses included a post office (1834), Blacksmith shop (1836), livery stable (1839), shoe store (1841), blacksmith shop again (1843/44) and wagon dealership (1845). In 1886, Jno Fenton organized a distillery called Fenton Bros., Incorporated here - one of only two such operations ever conducted withinAlabama at that time . By 1908 there were five stores operating withinAlabaster limits: four general merchandise stores and one liquor store . There were also several small shops along with three schools :one Grades 1-4 Schoolhouse #2 now known as Hawkins Middle School;Bellefontaine Elementary School #1 now known as Bellefontaine Middle School;and Oneida Elementary School #3 now known as Oneida High School
