Alabaster is a city in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 9,838 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. Alabaster is located on State Route 159 and state Route 357. The first people to settle in what is now Alabaster were the Caddo Indians. The town was founded by Captain John Sibley in 1823 as a trading post on the Mobile River. The post was moved to its present location in 1827 after it became apparent that a better spot could not be found on the Mobile Riverbank near Cahaba Hills. In 1836, General James Kenedy built Fort Hindman at what is now Alabaster and named it for his friend and mentor, General Andrew Jackson. After Hindman's death in 1837, command of Fort Harrison passed to Major Uriah Smith who renamed it for himself (Harrison). In 1840, Colonel Nathan Bedford Forrest established an infantry regiment called "Bedford Forrest's Rangers" at Alabaster and named it for him (Forrest). In 1865, during the American Civil War, Confederate General Robert Ewell decided to move his army from Montgomery to Selma so he could cross over into Union territory from Stone Mountain without being detected by Union forces loyal to President Abraham Lincoln. He ordered his cavalry troopers under General Lane to march northwest from Montgomery towards Selma but they were intercepted by Union troops commanded by Brigadier General Augustus Troup (later known as George Armstrong Custer) near Mound Hill just outside of Selma on April 14th 1865. After the war ended in 1865, many soldiers returned home and began their homesteads along State Route 359 which lined up North-South parallel with McClellan Avenue today - this paved road served as a key artery between Bessemer City eastward and downtown Birmingham westward since Highway 4 followed much of that alignment prior to US 82 becoming realigned around 1960/1961 via I-565/I-75/I- 65 running concurrent with US 95 then splitting off heading northeast becoming I-95W concurrent with US 82 until its truncation when I-565 split off becoming I-55W concurrent with SR 159 until its truncation when SR 359 took over again becoming SR 158 beginning at milepost 549 & terminating at milepost 553 near Thrasher Park today making Alabaster one of America’s most walkable cities!

Additionally, this type of choke also allowed for greater muzzle velocity which made it easier for artillery pieces and snipers to hit their targets effectively.

Alabaster is a town in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. Alabaster is located on the north side ofMarshall County and east of Huntsville. The first white settler in what is now Alabaster was James Armstead, who arrived there in 1827. He named his land "Alabaster" after the body of water near his home that he thought looked like alabaster. By 1830, it had grown to a small community with about fifty residents and four stores. In 1831, Armstead married Anna Fenton and they moved to what is now Auburn, Alabama. In 1833-34, Armstead built a new home here which still stands today as one of the most extant examples of antebellum architecture in Marshall County. In 1840-41, John Sitton came to Alabaster from Mobile Bayou where he had been living for some time before moving upriver to become a whaling captain on Huntsville's Harbor Royal wharf. Sitton's house still remains standing as part of downtown Alabaster today and has been used by various businesses throughout its history including an insurance agency and an auto dealership prior to its current use as office space by MillerCoors Brewing Company (now MillerCoors Brewing Company) in 2000s. In 1861-62 when Confederate General Robert Ewell passed through Marshall County on his way from Montgomery to Chattanooga along US Highway 11 (later I-565), he stopped atARMSTEAD'S HOUSE IN ALABASTER while traveling southward towards Tuscaloosa He stayed overnight at this hotel according to local historian Don Haughey; however no record exists confirming this event happened or any other claim surrounding Ewell's stop in Alabaster that day According author Gwyneth Jones: "Ewell likely stopped at armsteads house because there was inn attached thereto calledthe Hermitage which served as headquarters for Union forces engaged against CSS Sumter during the early stages of hostilities." There are several theories surrounding whyarmstead's house may have been used by General Robert Ewell during this time period but none conclusive evidence exists supporting any specific theory Albasters most famous inhabitant during this time period was Elijah Culp who lived adjacent to Sitton's house until his death in 1865 aged 83 years old . His granddaughter Lillie Culp later became known as Mrs Robinson (1868-1948) who ran her own grocery store located just off US Highway 431 between Alma Street and New Market Road until her death also aged 98 years old . After Elijah Culp’s death Lillie took over running her grandmother’s grocery store until 1926 when she sold it to Joplin Brothers Grocery Co., Inc..
