Alabaster is a city in Lamar County, Alabama, United States. It was founded in 1821 by the merger of two small settlements: Alabaster and Huntsville. The population was 11,754 as of the 2010 census.[1] As a result of its history as an ammunition manufacturing center during the American Civil War, Alabaster has become known as "The Ammunition Capital of the Confederacy." The first ammunition production in Alabaster took place around 1820. By 1830, it had become one of the largest ammo manufacturers in America. In 1861, most ammo production stopped due to political reasons; however, some munitions continued to be produced until 1865. Ammunition production resumed after the war mainly because Confederate forces needed new weapons for their effort against Union forces. After the war ended, many factories were closed down because of lack of demand from post-war America. However, a few remain active today thanks toAnheuser-Busch InBev's presence in town and investment from local businesses and individuals who support gun rights.

Alabaster is a small town in Alabama, United States. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. Alabaster is located on the Alabama- Tennessee border. The first mention of Alabaster in history was in 1795 when Captain John Smith discovered it while exploring a route between Mobile and Nashville. The town was platted in 1836 by James Hance and named for the hard alabaster rock which he found near the original town site. A post office called Alabaster was established in 1837, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1907. The discovery of oil near Muscle Shoals led to a boom in businesses around Alabaster during the 1930s and 1940s; both men who had invested were rewarded with large stockholdings before World War II ended their business fortunes. However, by the late 1960s many businesses had closed or been replaced by new ones as energy production increased along with traffic congestion on U.S.-Alabama state Route 65 outside of town limits. In 1978, following approval from then-Governor George Wallace, the community voted to secede from Marshall County and form its own limited liability company known as "Marshall County Borough". Today only a few houses remain standing from what once were numerous businesses and residences within what is now an industrial area surrounding Interstate 20 about 2 miles south of downtown Alabast
