In 1924, an airport was built within 100 yards of the town limits by private developers to serve local aviation needs; however it closed within a few years due to low traffic levels and lack of airfield support infrastructure. A new airport was constructed about 10 miles east of downtown O’Fallon by private developers in 2006; this new airport serves general aviation with scheduled passenger flights and provides commercial service for industries such as agriculture and manufacturing throughout central Jackson County.
