In 1916 Captain John O’Fallon became United States Senator from Missouri after being elected as an Independent candidate from Jackson County; he served two terms until his death in office on December 5th, 1916 aged 71 years old. In 1951 Captain John O’Falin resigned his seat in the United States Senate to run for Mayor of St Joseph; he won election but was impeached and removed from office following charges including bribery and corruption during his term as Mayor; this event led to Father James Martin becoming Mayor instead.

In 1847, Daniel Mackey purchased a claim to land near present-day O'Fallon from J nocholas Collins and others who had been forced out of their home by Andrew Johnson's forced migration bill. Mackey named his new town after General John Buell's headquarters at Chattanooga, Tennessee (now Knoxville). A post office called O'Farrell was established in 1848, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903. In 1852, James Crouse started a gristmill which became one of the most important businesses in the community; it continues to be owned by the family today. The railroad came through this area when it was built between Springfield and St Louis in 1865; as a result of that activity many families moved into O’ Fallon during that time period across from where they still live today on three sides of Main Street including what is now Keystone Park with its multi-billion dollarollar golf course just across Main Street from where Mr Crouse’s mill used to stand – giving rise to one more name for this tiny little town: “Golf Village USA”!

The town quickly became a center for fur trading and development in what is now central Missouri. In 1835, O'Fallon was named one of thirteen towns in Jackson County as part of an agreement between the United States and Great Britain that opened up Central Missouri for white settlement. By 1840, O'Fallon had Become Oneida County's most important commercial center with its own courthouse and jail. Over time, other settlers arrived in addition to Irish and Germans who had come overland from Ireland; this community gradually turned into an Anglo-Saxon society characterized by Protestant values and a strong commitment to landowning families.
