O'Fallon, MO is a small town located in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. It was founded by German immigrants in 1855 and was named after Wilhelm O'Fallon, an important figure in early history of the area. The first gunsmith in O'Fallon was Jacob Weiser who worked from his shop on Main Street until 1868. Weiser's son, Abraham Weiser, continued the family tradition and opened a store on Front Street in 1876. In 1922, the business passed to his grandson Harry Weiser Jr., who continued operations until his death in 1984. During Prohibition (1912-1921), Harry Weiser Sr.'s store was one of the few businesses open in O'Fallon during that time period. After prohibition ended, HarryWeiser Jr.'s store closed and reopened as a grocery store in 1984. In 2000, HarryWeisersons reopen as an antique firearms dealership called "The Gun Shop." In 1861, Confederate General Robert Easley built his headquarters near present day downtown O’Fallon during the Civil War effort to protect himself from Union forces encroaching into Missouri territory. General Easley's headquarters remain extant today as part of the city parks system. The early years of the 20th century were difficult for many residents of O’Fallon due to economic hardships caused by World War I and then later by prohibitionism during Prohibition era which devastated local businesses throughout America's Great Lakes region There have been several notable events associated with this time period including: The death of Nobel Prize winning physicist Max Born at age 26 at his home aqueduct complex located northeast of town; Babe Ruth hitting his first professional home run off Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes (of United States Supreme Court) at County Stadium; Roy Wilkins becoming African American Night Manager for Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Lew Burdette; establishment of Illinois Normal University (now UIUC) adjacent to town limits; demolition/replacement/construction of numerous large wooden frame homes characteristic of pioneer agricultural village lifestyle occurring throughout entire community resulting from increased use attributable to increasing population density resultant from elevator development since few if any residents remaining residing within original structures following prohibition Era repeal thereof; plant construction/operation by Ford Motor Company Midwest Division beginning production dates November 1st 1922 as Flint Hills Motors Plant #1 followed one year later by Dearborn Heights Plant #2 - all now long gone but their impact can still be felt through various objects or places instantly recognizable even today such as 5800 block N Main Street where company slogan “Ford had nothing to do with it – we made it happen!” once adorned prominent storefront window
