O'Fallon is a town in Rice County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The first settler in O'Fallon was James Hickey in 1825. In 1849, purchase of what is now Rice County by General Scott and his army gave rise to the name "Scott's Fort" and later "Fort Scott". In 1865, General John C. Frémont laid out a townsite on land he had acquired from the Osage Nation west of present-day O'Fallon. Named for General John C. Fremont (1813-1887), it became an important wagon stop on the Santa Fe Trail during its early years as a key transportation artery linking New Mexico with California and Oregon via marketplaces in central Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas. The town site was platted by Eli Whitney in 1868; Whitney named it after himself and donated $10,000 to build a school here. A post office called Whitneyville was established in 1870; it discontinued operation in 1902 because of lack of ridership on the stagecoach line connecting St. Louis with Whitneyville (the last stagecoach trip occurred on November 11, 1902). In 1875–76, Jesse James robbed two trains traveling between Saint Joseph and Independence laarge near present day Springfield; one train derailed while stopped at O'Fallon Junction about three miles east of present day O'Fallon; all passengers were safely released before any arrests could be made: this event is widely regarded as one of the most infamous robberies ever committed within Missouri limits On April 12th 1886 local citizens erected a large granite statue commemorating Captain George Rucker who drowned while saving four men from drowning off Point Lookout lighthouse nearpresent day Jacksonville Beach Illinois (). This event marked one hundred years since Captain Rucker had saved four men from drowning when their boat capsized just offshore from shore

In 1876, the town was named after General Ulysses S. Grant, who had died two years earlier. The town's growth continued during the 1880s and 1890s, as industry spread out to new locations in neighboring towns. By 1912, O'Fallon had reached its peak population of around 1,500 residents. However, economic hardships led to a decline in population during the 1930s and 1940s. In 1951, O'Fallon was merged with neighboring communities of Emporia and Springfield to form the City of Springfield Township.
