In Lee's Summit, Missouri, there have been many shootings in which individuals were killed or injured. On October 5th 1899, two men were shot and killed while playing poker on the streets of the town. The shooting was investigated by the police department but no arrests were made. In 1902, a man was shot and killed outside of a saloon in Lee's Summit. That same year, an individual was fatally shot at a local grocery store. In 1909, three people were killed when someone opened fire on a train in Lee's Summit. In 1911, an individual was fatally shot outside of a business in town. In 1915, four people died after being Shot at by 2nd Lieutenant Donald Bickerton during World War I in nearby Kansas City. The shooting is still considered to be one of the most notorious shootings in Missouri history due to its high casualty rate and notoriety around the area for years afterwards. On February 14th 1969, fourteen-year old Jameson Herron was shot and killed as he walked home from school in Lee's Summit. The murder remains unsolved to this day despite numerous tips from law enforcement officers.
