He also started his own grocery business called Dickey’s Grocery Store on Main Street downtown where he sold groceries and fed local farmers. Lee's Summit, Missouri is a town in Johnson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 3,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The name Lee's Summit comes from James Hickey Lee and his brother John Hickey Lee who built a sawmill on the now-demolished Post Road in 1854. The first church in Lee's Summit was founded in 1859 by Reverend George A. Smith and was dedicated to the Holy Bible. That same year, Isaac Gossage built a log cabin near present day Main Street and First Avenue. In 1861 local residents formed the First Methodist Church with Rev. Jno Bigham as pastor and began serving the community that included both rural areas west of Topeka (now Shawnee) Creek and east of Farmington (now Overland Park). In 1865 Abraham Lincoln was fatally shot while campaigning for president in Springfield, Illinois; soon afterward local citizens organized an ambulance service to transport President Lincoln's body back to Great Britain for burial before he could be buried at Westminster Abbey. On July 4th 1865, Lee's Summit residents erected a large wooden obelisk on Main Street in memory of their fallen leader located just north of town across from what is now Orchard Drive Baptist Church Complex. Mr./Ms.(?) donated this structure to the city of Kansas City after its incorporation as a municipality on December 5th 1951 During World War II many people from Lee's Summit enlisted in various military units including those who served overseas such as Army Air Forces Sergeantmajor Leroy "Dutch" Kappenheimer who flew P-47 Thunderbolt fighter planes over Normandy during Operation Overlord On October 15th 1955 Mayor Harry Wirths dedication plaque recognizing all fifty years since club had been formed read "The American Legion Post 20 South Main streets" On that date $10 were deposited into Founders Fund account which controls current club operations

However, World War II led to significant declines in population as many residents left for military service or other work opportunities abroad. During the postwar period, Lee's Summit experienced a variety of technological advances including becoming one of the first cities to have electric lights and streetcars. However, despite these positive accomplishments during the post-war years, significant challenges remain today that threaten to undermine both its economic stability and social fabric. For example: while there has been recent growth in retail businesses throughout the City (most notably along Main Street), this has not translated into increased employment or socio-economic parity across demographic groups; while residential development is proceeding at a brisk pace but without accompanying economic impact on surrounding neighborhoods; racial tension remains high as some residents cling to legacy patterns dating back more than 100 years
