The Lee's Summit Rifle and Pistol Club was formed in 1892. The first meeting was held at the home of John S. Lewis, a whitesmith, on May 5th. The club met monthly until 1906 when it moved to the Masonic Temple on Grand Boulevard. In 1914, the club purchased a rifle range from Mr. and Mrs. Margetts in town and began using it for shooting matches with other clubs in town. In 1922, the range was sold to Ira Huppman who made it his personal property and continued to use it as his personal shooting ground until he died in 1984. In 1951, the club purchased a shotgun range from Lyle Hinkle who had also owned a gun shop in town prior to his death that year. From 1954-1964, the club bought another rifle range from Driggs Holcombe which they used until their move to their current location on Old Main Street in Lee's Summit in 1966 when they were renamed the Lee's Summit Rifle and Pistol Club Incorporated (LSPC).

Lee's Summit is a town in Buchanan County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,879 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Lee's Summit was named for General John A. Lee, who fought in the American Civil War and won fame as a Union general. The first settlers in what is now Lee's Summit were Alexander McGillivray and his brother Peter McGillivray. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Mississippian River in 1836. Early residents were farmers, but during the 1840s they became interested in lumbering and began to build mills Gilliland & Company on Elk Creek and Hutton Lumber Company on Harper Road. By 1857 there were 30 companies organized into four classes with $1 million capital each: Class I ($25 per share), Class II ($50 per share), Class III ($75 per share), and Class IV (100 shares). In 1865 two brothers – James Waddell andatom McCullough – bought all of the stock of Gilliland & Company, renamed it McCullough Waddell & Co., and restarted production of logs and lumber from scratch while still keeping control over their individual classifications within their company. In 1886 James Waddell died suddenly; his son George Fenton succeeded him as president of McCullough Waddell & Co., which became one of America’s leading logging companies under various names until its sale to International Paper Corporation in 1970. In 1887 local resident John Barger built a sawmill on Big Muddy Creek that soon became one of Missouri’s largest producers of woodchips (later known as chips). The mill produced over 100 thousand board feet/day until 1925 when it closed because demand for chips had plummeted due to world wars I (1914-18) and II (1939-45). Other notable businesses founded or existing before 1925 include Post Office Department Store (1889), Old Indian Agency Schoolhouse(1893), Masonic Temple(1900), BaptistChurch(1908), Cotton Gin(1911) – all now gone but well remembered by local residents who used them long ago as community landmarks In 1907 some men from nearby Independence started an oil refinery called Standard Oil Refining co., Incorporated with $5 million capital raised through public offering culmination thirteen months later yielding $27 million worth of stocks including those held by Duluth Mining CO., Ltd., Standard Oil Refining plc., petroleums divisionStandard Petroleum Trust Plc.– today ExxonMobil plc.–owned interests near Independence included Standard Products Pipeline Group Inc.—a major transporter providing oil products from fields located adjacent to this town—and Central Pipe Line Corp.—a major water distribution system operator servicing townships north, east, southwest, west central Kansas City also lying within adjacent Phelps County including Independence—the last significant pipeline interest extant today outsideKansas City proper limits In 1933 Standard Oil sold its operations to Mobil corporation for $2 billion making Mobil America Incorporated–today ExxonMobil plc.–the largest corporate entity ever created by merger alone in history surpassing even Microsoft Lumia CTO Satya Nadella’s previous record set five years earlier when Microsoft acquired Nokia Devices& Services Ltd.–one might think given recent trends such large multinational conglomerates have become less desirable since then but antitrust concerns prevent any definitive answer from being forthcoming
