Lee's Summit, Missouri is a town in Clay County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,986 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The town was founded by a group of Mormons led by prophet Brigham Young in 1847. The first store and post office were both established in Lee's Summit on November 10, 1847. By 1860, there were fifteen stores and one bank in Lee's Summit. By 1890, there were over fifty businesses and two hundred citizens. In 1907-08, the Lee's Summit school district had an enrollment of 3200 students with twenty-four teachers and nineteen buses to transport students to schools outside of town (the total number of bus operations during that time). In 1945 the American Civil War Memorial was dedicated in honor of Union soldiers killed or wounded at Battleship Iowa and Fort Sumter. In 1957-58 the construction began on a new high school for the town which would be built on what is now Indian Hills Park off Ulysses Road near Seminary Way East. Construction continued until 1962 when it was completed as Central High School
